Beginning his career as an impressionist, later venturing into the movie industry and playing hilarious characters on screen, and later securing a chair in M-Town amongst one of the seasoned actors, Suraj Venjaramoodu has come a long way. From Dashamoolam Damu, a foolish young man in ‘Chattambinadu’ to the husband, who is a representative of the patriarchal system in ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’, Suraj Venjaramoodu has showcased his acting chops numerous times. The brilliant actor is turning 45 today and on this special occasion, let’s take a look at a few interesting facts about the actor, we bet you hardly knew.

His family and friends call him ‘Kuttappan’

Suraj Venjaramoodu was born as the third child of Vasudevan Nair and Vilasni. He was the youngest child and his siblings and parents used to call him ‘Kuttappan’. The Malayalam word means good-looking or handsome and Suraj’s parents affectionately call him ‘Kuttappan’!

​Award-winning comedian

Malayalam cinema has only seen a few talented comedians in the past decades. Suraj Venjaramoodu was able to give life to several hilarious characters and he came as a relief to the industry in the past decades as many talented comedians like Jagathy Sreekumar, Jagadish, Harisree Ashokan, and Innocent started giving fewer films. Suraj Venjaramoodu has also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Comedian three times -2009, 2010, and 2013. And his character Dashamoolam Damu from ‘Chattambi Nadu’ is the most talked about.

​Suraj Venjaramoodu has worked as a tutor for Mammootty

Yes, that’s right! Suraj Venjaramoodu has worked as a language tutor for Mammootty in the latter’s film ‘Rajamanikyam’. In the film, Mammootty played the role of Bellari Raja, a rich man from Trivandrum. Suraj Venjaramoodu, who hails from Trivandrum, worked as the language coach for the Megastar!

​He is a National Award-winning actor

Suraj Venjaramoodu is an impressive actor. Although at the beginning of his career, he used to focus more on comedy and character roles, he broke the jinx when he worked in ‘Perariyathavar’. The 2014 release was helmed by Dr. Biju and Suraj played the role of a single parent. His performance in the film was top notch and he won the National Film Award for Best Actor for the same!

Suraj Venjaramoodu has also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor in 2019 for the films ‘Android Kunjappan Version 5.25’ and ‘Vikruthi’.

​He is an author

Suraj Venjaramoodu is a multi-faceted star and being an author is one among them. Suraj Venjaramoodu has written two books ‘Chirimayam’ - a memoir and ‘Venjaramoodu Kathakal’. In ‘Chirimayam’ Suraj Venjaramoodu has spoken about his journey from a normal guy to an actor, struggles, and success. The book is inspiring to people, especially as Suraj has no connections with the entertainment industry and yet managed to secure his place with hard work.
