Dileep’s ‘Vettam’ to re-release soon: Buzz

It’s the time for re-visiting fan favourite films for Mollywood. What began with Mohanlal’s ‘Spadikam’ has resulted in the re-release of many cult movies including the recently re-released ‘Manichithrathazhu’.

A report by OTTPlay hints that ‘Vettam’ directed by Priyadarshan featuring Dileep, which was released in 2004, is set for re-release. Some movie forums on X (formerly Twitter) also suggest that the Dileep starrer is gearing up for re-release.

The Dileep starrer Malayalam romantic comedy revolves around Gopi, a petty thief who steals a valuable necklace and ends up on a wild chase involving a series of comedic and chaotic events. The Priyadarshan’s directorial, which didn’t fare well during its initial release, however, has an engaging storyline, infused with humor, romance, and situational comedy. The film also features a strong supporting cast, including Innocent, Jagathy Sreekumar, Kalabhavan Mani, and Nedumudi Venu, who contribute significantly to the comic narrative. With music composed by Berny-Ignatius, ‘Vettam’ was also noted for its catchy songs. The film received mixed reviews but managed to perform moderately well at the box office. While it was not a blockbuster, over time, ‘Vettam’ has gained a cult following and is often revisited by fans of Malayalam cinema for its light-hearted entertainment and memorable comic scenes.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s two films ‘Devadoothan’ and ‘Manichithrathazhu’ have been re-released lately. ‘Devadoothan’ which had failed at the box office during its initial release received impressive footfall during its recent re-release. Similarly ‘Manichithrathazhu’ starring Shobana, Suresh Gopi, and Mohanlal too is receiving great response in its re-release.
