Cool skills picked up by Mollywood celebs in 2020

While the Covid-19 pandemic might have left all plans for 2020 in disarray, it also meant that many had a lot of free time on their hands. The case wasn’t different for celebrities from the Malayalam film industry either, with all shooting suspended. Many celebs though used the time to pick up some cool and useful skills and these ranged from skateboarding and surfing to gardening and making burgers from scratch! Here’s a look at some of the amazing skills that Mollywood actors picked up in 2020.

Dulquer Salmaan - Making burgers from scratch

Mollywood’s youth icon has not just experimented with his looks and film genres, he has also been busy in the kitchen – making burgers! In May, he shared a pic of cheese burger along with the caption, “Made this almost entirely from scratch! Next up will be to back our own brioche buns!” His burger-making skills seem to have won over a lot of fans too with Prithviraj hailing Dulquer as “the best burger chef in town”.

Sudev Nair - Surfing

Sudev Nair has been busy learning new skills all year – from acing somersaults to hotel workouts – but what truly left us impressed was him surfing by the end of 2020. “I am a good swimmer, so there was no nervousness. In fact, it came easily to me. In the first session itself, I was able to stand on the board and surf the wave; it would usually take people up to 10 classes. The control comes from gymnastics and athletics,” he said, adding ice skiing is the next in his bucket list to tick off.

Ann Sheetal - Longboarding

The Ishq actress has been sharing photos of his longboarding in Kochi in 2020. In an interview with us, she said, “My guy friends used to explain how to do it and I checked out online tutorials. I always like to try out new things and want to be able to do longboard tricks; that is how I started out. Also, I felt it was important that the brain does not stay stagnant sitting at home during the quarantine. And now our streets are a bit quieter than usual, so it provides the perfect opportunity.”

Kalidas Jayaram - Gardening

Like most youngsters, Kalidas too tried working out and watching movies to spend time during lockdown, but he was most passionate about gardening, a skill that his dad had urged him to take up. The actor, during the lockdown, told us that he had planted pumpkin, bitter gourd, tomato, green chilli, onion and varieties of beans. “I think of gardening as a life lesson,” he said, “It is not only teaching me to farm, it is also making me more patient and disciplined as I have to be systematic or else the plants won’t yield.”

Mohanlal - Flambé style of cooking

It’s no secret that Mollywood superstar Mohanlal is a great cook and he keeps experimenting with different styles. In December, the actor tried out flambé, a cooking procedure in which alcohol is added to a hot pan to create a burst of flames. A video shared by his close friend and entrepreneur Sameer Hamza, had the actor making fish flambé and left his fans impressed!

Mamta Mohandas - Painting

While the lockdown suspended all plans of house renovation for many, actress Mamta Mohandas decided to paint her house walls all by herself. The actress, who returned from the US in mid March for the shoot of Bilal, had to go into self quarantine and used the time to be productive by painting her house. While she says the initial few days were a bit time-consuming and messy, she quickly got the hang of it.

Tovino Thomas - Superman pushups

Tovino Thomas has been training hard all year in 2020 and has aced several plyometric moves that the fit actor couldn’t before. From kip-ups and hand stands to plyometric leaps and box squats, Tovino’s moves at the gym have left many wide-eyed. But his video of him doing a superman pushup just showed that he is at his peak fitness levels! Tovino’s gym videos also motivated many to start hitting the gym this pandemic year.

Vineeth Sreenivasan - Cooking

Actor-director-singer-scriptwriter-producer Vineeth Sreenivasan added another skill to his repertoire in 2020 – cooking. “I have developed an interest in cooking. I make payasam, halwa, fried rice, neychor, gobi manchurian, and kanji and payar. I also make non-veg dishes and as nobody eats that at home, I send it to my friends through delivery services,” said Vineeth, in an interview with us in July.
