'Bharathanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam' box office collections day 1: Saiju Kurup's film opens with Rs 31 lakhs gross

'Bharathanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam', the sequel starring Saiju Kurup and Suraj Venjaramoodu, had a slow start at the box office on its first day. The dark comedy collected around Rs 31 lakhs gross on April 10, according to the latest reports.

Modest opening numbers for 'Mohiniyattam'

According to the Sacnilk website, 'Bharathanatyam 2: Mohiniyattam' opened with Rs 31 lakhs gross on Day 1. The India net collection stood at a modest Rs 28 lakhs.

Comparison with 'Aadu 3'

While 'Mohiniyattam' had a slow opening, Saiju Kurup’s other release 'Aadu 3' opened to one of the biggest numbers in Malayalam cinema.


'Aadu 3', which hit the big screens on March 19, collected nearly 18 crores worldwide on its first day and went on to deliver a strong extended opening weekend.

ETimes review for 'Mohiniyattam' reads, "The makers wanted to enhance the film’s theatrical feel with its music and Electronic Kili has delivered perfectly in this regard. The technical team of cinematographer Bablu Aju, editor Bablu Aju, and art director Diljith Das have also done a superb job with capturing the momentum - whether calm or tense - of the exterior and interior shots. Saiju is perfect as the person the family turns to in a difficult situation, but is as clueless as the rest of them. Baby Jean is a great addition to the mix. Suraj is subtle, yet crude and horrible in all aspects of his villainy; so well played. But while the actors have all done a good job, the script really is the real hero here and for that, the praise goes to writer-director Krishnadas."


The film follows Sasidharan Nair as his family travels to Sreekandapuram to settle matters related to his late father’s second family. This leads to unexpected criminal, scandalous, and high-tension situations filled with dark humour.

Saiju Kurup and Suraj Venjaramoodu lead the cast, with Jagadish, Baby Jean, and Vinay Forrt in key supporting roles.
