Belgian refugee drama ‘Tori et Lokita’ to open the 27th IFFK 2022

Palme d’Or winning director duo Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne’s Belgian refugee drama ‘Tori et Lokita/ Tori and Lokita will open the 27th International Film Festival of Kerala 2022. The 27th edition of the festival will open on December 9 in Thiruvananthapuram, and this year, 184 movies from around 70 countries across 15 theatres will be screened.
Featuring Pablo Schils and Joely Mbundu in the lead roles, ‘Tori et Lokita’ explores the beauty of an unfailing friendship, amidst tough times. The film travels through the lives of a boy and a teenage girl, who are African immigrants living in a shelter in Belgium. ‘Tori et Lokita’ had its world premiere in the competition section of the 2022 Cannes Film Festival where it earned the Cannes 75th Anniversary Award. And it is worth mentioning that the Dardenne brothers' film will have its Indian premiere at the 27th IFFK 2022.
Directed by Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne, the film also has actors Alban Ukaj, Tijmen Govaerts, Charlotte De Bruyne, Nadège Ouedraogo, and, Marc Zinga in some important roles. Benoit Dervaux SBC has cranked the lens, while Marie-Hélène Dozo is the editor. Jean-Pierre Duret handled the sound department for the film.
“Our dearest wish is that at the end of the film, the audience, who will have felt a deep empathy for these two young exiles and their unfailing friendship, will also feel a sense of revolt against the injustice that reigns in our societies,” the director duo said in a statement earlier.


Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram and cinephiles are all set to welcome the 27th IFFK 2022, which will commence on December 9 and will conclude on 16.
