Art director Sunil Babu passes away at 50 following cardiac arrest

Popular Mollywood art director Sunil Babu breathed his last on January 5. Reportedly Sunil Babu passed away following a cardiac arrest on Thursday night. Following a swelling on his leg three days before, Sunil Babu was admitted to a private hospital in Ernakulam. Sunil Babu is survived by his wife Prema and his daughter Arya Saraswathi. Hailing from Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Sunil Babu has worked in several popular Malayalam movies as an art director and production designer. Sunil Babu was the son of Thankappan Nair and Saraswathi. Sunil Babu made his Mollywood debut as an assistant to production designer Sabu Cyril. He also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Art Director for the drama film ‘Ananthabhadram’.Apart from Malayalam movies, Sunil Babu has also worked in several Tamil, Telugu, and Bollywood films. Some of his popular works as an art director include ‘Lakshya’, ‘Police’, ‘Iqbal’, ‘Ghajini’, ‘Anandabhadram’, ‘Notebook’, ‘Chota Mumbai’, ‘Ghajini’, ‘Villu’, ‘Casanovva’, and ‘Bangalore Days’. As a production designer, Sunil Babu is well known for the Dulquer Salmaan starrer ‘Sita Ramam’, ‘Operation Romeo’, ‘Bheeshma Parvam’, ‘Maharshi’, and ‘Kayamkulam Kochunni’. He has also worked as a production designer for the upcoming films ‘Varisu’, ‘Cyanide’, and ‘Mumbaikar’. The Popular Mollywood director took to her official Instagram handle to share condolences to Sunil Babu who has worked in her superhit film ‘Bangalore Days’. Anjali Menon’s Instagram note read, “Utterly shocked to hear of Sunil Babu’s demise. We worked together on Bangalore Days and I have some wonderful memories that I will always hold dear. Rest in peace dear Sunil.”
