Actors who have roots in Kerala and made it big in Bollywood

Malayalam cinema has always been blessed with talents who have the capability to shapeshift into any character a filmmaker moulds. And hence, the M-Town actors working in other language entertainment industries are not surprising anymore. But there are a few individuals who started off with Malayalam cinema or have roots down in Kerala but have found their hold in Bollywood. Here’s a list of some celebrities who have roots back in Kerala and made it big in Hindi - Bollywood.

Asin Thottumkal

Asin Thottumkal is a complete Malayali! The actress was born and brought up in Kerala. In fact, the diva began her career in cinema through Mollywood. Asin’s debut film was ‘Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka,’ a Malayalam film. She essayed a supporting character in the film. Although she began her career with Malayalam, the beauty found her comfort zone in Tamil and Telugu and later ventured into Bollywood.

The handsome hunk of Bollywood, John Abraham has a huge connection with God's own country. The actor has always expressed his affection for his homeland. John is a half Malayali to be precise as his dad is from Kerala and his mother from Gujarat. The actor can understand Malayalam and even speaks broken Malayalam!

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan is undeniably the uncrowned queen of Bollywood. The ‘Parineeta’ actress is one of the forces to reckon in B-Town and is also one of the most influential Indian actors of our times. But do you know that the diva has some connections with Kerala and her very first film was supposed to be in Malayalam? Vidya Balan was born to Tamilian parents and Palakkad is apparently her father’s hometown. She even started her journey into movies with Malayalam cinema ‘Chakram’ opposite Mohanlal but unfortunately, it was shelved.
