Actor Siddique: AMMA has no role in the Justice Hema Committee report publication

Siddique, the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), asserted that the decision to release the Justice Hema Committee report lies solely with the government.

Speaking to the press, Siddique emphasized that AMMA plays no role in determining the report's publication. Siddique said, “"It’s not something related to AMMA. Whether the report should be published or not is decided by the government, we have no role to play."

In contrast, the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) has embraced the State Information Commission's recent directive mandating the Culture Department to disclose the report's findings.

Expressing relief and optimism, the WCC hailed the decision as a breakthrough after enduring prolonged silence on the matter. Their statement, which was shared on Instagram, conveyed hope for significant reforms within the industry, echoing widespread calls for accountability and transparency.

WCC’s official page shared a post that read, “Women in Cinema Collective wholeheartedly welcomes the State Information Commission’s order to release the findings of the Hema Committee report. The order that breaks the long and disappointing silence indeed gives hope for all of us who have been relentlessly striving to break through.”

Appointed by governmental authorities, the committee's findings are rumored to unveil revelations that can allegedly affect big names in the film industry. The commission has mandated the disclosure of the report's findings by July 25th.

Formed in 2017 to investigate cases of harassment against women and gender inequality within the Malayalam film industry, the committee submitted its 20-page report in 2019. Despite this, the state government has withheld the findings for the past five years.
