It goes without saying that in performing arts, the quality of performance, in terms of linguistic expertise, has taken a hit over the years, partly because other factors have started taking precedence and also due to a lack of proper guidance for artistes to improve their skills.
One may or may not have command over diction. While for many, it’s an inherent talent, others acquire and hone the skill along the way. It’s an art that can be learnt. Urdu is a beautiful language that is often said to mark the courteous from the unlearned and the noble from the ordinary.
Actor, writer and director of several plays, Salim Arif is an illustrious alumnus of

NSD

. His plays include Aapki Soniya, Ghalibnaama, Kharaashein, Taj Mahal Ka Tender, Kaifi Saab, Peele Patton Ka Ban, Dil Chahta Hai, Shyam Rang, Agar Aur Magar, Bayaane Ghalib, Rakt Kalyan, Parwaaze Bayaan Aur, Kachche Lamhe, Atthanniyaan and Lakeerein.
