fraternity and everyone who loves the singer joins in prayer for his well-being, filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh lets us in on a bit of interesting trivia that connects him to SPB.
“My father was a lecturer and he was shooting a low-budget film Ellindalo Bandavaru in 1979. Those were challenging times and he hadn't even written the lyrics when they were in the studio. He took a five-minute break to write the lyrics and came back. SPB recorded this track in 10 minutes and it was ready. Puttanna Kanagal was waiting outside and he heard the lyrics and went crazy. He even asked my father to write lyrics for his film, but he just smiled as both of them were from different schools of filmmaking,” shares Indrajit.
Years later, when Indrajit forayed into cinema as a director, he collaborated with SPB. “In 2001, SPB sang for my debut

. During the recording, I reminded him of his work with my father. He not only fondly remembered my father who was no more by then, but also remarked that the song in my film and the one in my father’s movie were similar. It’s been nearly two decades since and SPB is still singing, and I would love to record with him again, as soon as he is back on his feet,” says Indrajit.
