The Kannada film industry is never short of controversies, filmy gossip and celebrity drama. While the film industry has been churning out good content all these years, it was the 2018 release 'KGF' that made the world sit up and take note of all they have to offer. With Kannada films quickly gaining popularity the nation over, we take a look at the films that have been ruling the headlines, be it for their casting or content or even the controversies they courted.

‘KGF’, starring actor Yash, was undoubtedly one of the biggest releases of 2018. The film that released in 5 languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada was not only a big hit in the country but across the globe. Apart from smashing box office records, it was also the first Kannada movie to release in Pakistan.

The ‘KGF’ began making headlines because of its popularity and also because it became the first Sandalwood film to be inducted into the 200-crore club.

‘Pailwan’, one of the most anticipated movies of the year, got a lot of attention because of the plot that revolves around the sport of wrestling. ‘Kurukshetra’, one of the big-budget historical movies in Sandalwood, will see Darshan playing a major role in the movie that is also his 50th film. There is a lot of expectations riding on this film considering its ensemble cast that includes Darshan, Ambareesh, V. Ravichandran, Arjun Sarja, Nikhil Gowda, Sneha, Meghana Raj, Saikumar Pudipeddi, Sonu Sood, Srinivasa Murthy, Danish Akhtar Saifi, Ravishankar and Haripriya. This is also one of the last films of Rebel Star Ambareesh, who passed away last year. The movie is based on ‘Mahabharata’ and the story is narrated in Duryodhana (King of Kauravas) perspective.

Director T.S Nagabharana has come back with an adaptation of Poornachandra Tejaswi's novel ‘Jugari Cross’. The story is a suspense thriller, with Chiranjeevi Sarja playing the lead role. Many famous directors, including Kodlu Ramakrishna, tried to bring the novel ‘Jugari Cross’ to the big screen, but T.S Nagabharana has done it successfully by acquiring the rights from Poornachandra Tejaswi's wife, Rajeshwari to make the movie. The audience has huge expectations because it is being made by the National award-winning director Nagabharana.

Sunil Kumar Desai, director of suspense thriller movies in Sandalwood, is all set to release his new movie ‘Udgarsha’. The movie that will release in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada, will star Bollywood actor Thakur Anoop Singh in the lead role. Sunil Kumar Desai, who has brought super hit suspense thrillers and action films to the Kannada silver screen, will now look forward to giving his audience a thrilling experience with his next.
