Ragini Chandran’s debut film as female lead has no hero in it

Ragini Chandran has a special appearance in husband Prajwal Devaraj’s next,

. Now, the model-actress has confirmed that she is all set to debut as a lead actress, in Raghu Samarth’s Vijayadashami.

Telling us about the movie, the muhurat of which will be held on Vijayadashami (October 19), Ragini says, “Vijayadashami is a thriller, and while I am the female lead, there is no male lead in this film. I play a law graduate, for who nothing and no one is above the law. She fights for what is right, not caring about what society has to say. Usually, when there is a case of rape or molestation, the first reaction is to keep quiet, but through my character, we want to show that we must all speak out against injustice.”

So, when Ragini says she fights for what is right, will we see her do that literally in the film? “No (laughs). It is more like an intellectual fight, which will injure the people it is meant to,” she says. A strong female protagonist is a dream come true for any actress. Is that what sealed the deal for Ragini? “There have been a lot of movie offers coming to me and Prajwal, but none of the stories interested us. When Raghu contacted Prajwal for this movie, he was surprised when he heard that it was for me. What clinched the deal for me was the script; not me, but the script is the hero of the film,” she says.

Ragini will not be doing any of the stereotypical running around the trees in this movie, but there is one one song — a situational one — by Vasuki Vaibhav.

The others actors in the film include Achyuta Kumar, Avinash and Prakash Belawadi. Ragini is currently busy prepping for her role, which, she says, involves a lot of homework.
