Legal trouble for Kirik Party

spent a sleepless night on Wednesday, as they had to delete the song Hey Who Are You from the movie, after Lahari Music secured a stay order against the release of the movie, claiming that the song violates copyrights of the original song from the 1991 movie, Shanti Kranti.

The makers have claimed that the song was a tribute to music director Hamsalekha and actor

V Ravichandaran

, and that no note has been lifted. Speaking about the development, director Rishab Shetty says, 'The law is such that anyone can secure a stay order, but we can only get that reversed when we get a court date. The timing of the stay order seems opportune, since it comes on the day leading up to the release, despite the fact that the song has been out for a few weeks. We have deleted the song for the time being to ensure that the movie releases on Friday.'

The director added that they are not the first ones to go through this. 'Lahari Music is known to do this ' they did it with Ranavikrama and

as well. We are not in the wrong, so we will not pay money to buy a compromise. The next hearing is on January 7. We need to see the court order and decide how to react.'

We tried reaching Lahari Music, but they hadn't responded till the time of going to print.
