A lot of Kannada actors, from both the big and small screen, are blurring boundaries and moving toward other industries post COVID, especially Tollywood.
Ashika Ranganath, who is now two films old in the Telugu industry says, “When COVID hit, people started consuming content from across the globe, and the whole game changed, and that’s when I thought I should experiment, too.” “My career is something that I am extremely passionate about. And I am willing to take all kinds of risks to elevate it. This is one such attempt,” she says. Post the pandemic, Amigos happened, and what followed was Naa Saami Ranga with Nagarjuna,” Ashika reveals.
‘PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO EXPLORE DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES’Over the years, the divide between industries has been slowly vanishing. Work always gets you more work, and people are trying to explore different fields. In fact, the director of Naa Saami Ranga cast me after watching my performance in Amigos. I am a Bengaluru Hudugi by heart and soul, and I have only ventured out to gain new experiences.
‘A STORY SHOULD REALLY STAY WITH ME FOR ME TO SAY YES’ Whenever I hear a story, I need to feel excited; it should linger for a while. It should sit and stay with me for some time. Only then do I say yes to a script.
‘I AM NOW BINGE-WATCHING NAGARJUNA’S FILMS’ My parents are huge fans of the actor. They were more excited about me sing - ing Naa Saami Ranga! Actually, I haven’t seen many films of Nagarjuna, but now I am binge-watching it all! I am envious of his healthy lifestyle! He is so disciplined, even at this age. One thing I have noticed about him is that he nev - er gives up on himself, even after becoming such a huge star.
‘LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE IS BEAUTIFUL’I have picked up a few Telugu words here and there during shoots, and I intend on learning more. Learning a new language is a beautiful experience in itself, knowing the words and their meanings. I think I am half-way there with Telugu, but I still have a long way to go.
My fans are extremely possessive about me. I am, and I will always be, a Kannada hudugi. What I am today is because of the people I have worked with here
