Popular news anchor Gaurish Akki, who had a small stint in the Kannada film Lucia last year, will turn director with his upcoming film, Cinema My Darling. “As the name suggests, the film is about the love that the characters in the movie have towards cinema. The dream of each of the four heroes in the film is to be a part of the film industry — as an actor, director, cameraman and music director.
The movie begins with them being demotivated as they are unable to fulfill their dreams, but their lives soon change as they set off on the path of making their dream a reality. The film is about their journey and the cost of following their passion,” says Gaurish.
Ask him why he chose to leave behind a lucrative career in journalism to become a director, and Gaurish says, “Cinema is my passion as well. Just like the characters in the film, I don’t come from a filmi background. I came to Bangalore to fulfill my dream of being a filmmaker, but due to a lack of support, I became a lecturer. I got bored of that job and joined a news channel. I learnt a lot there and enjoyed my job, but films always remained my passion. So it was only natural for me to pursue it,” says Gaurish, who adds that the story of Cinema My Darling is inspired by his life to some extent.
