From 'Mata' to 'Sankastahara Ganapathi': Kannada comedies that will lift your spirits

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic across the world, people have been quarantined and are staying home as a precautionary measure. And while people are spending time with their families watching movies and series, here are a few Kannada comedies that we recommend you to watch. From ‘Mata’ to 'Sankastahara Ganapathi', these movies will surely lift that gloom off you, at least for a while.

Mata

‘Mata’ is one of the most epic comedies in the history of Kannada movies. The 2006 film was directed by Guruprasad and starred Navarasa Nayaka Jaggesh, Mandya Ramesh and Vaijanath Biradar. This was a black comedy. Initially, ‘Mata’ received some criticism but it was well accepted by the audience for its comedy scenes and storyline. The story revolves around the position of the Mata Adyaksha, for one of the holy places in India. Few people are selected to train for the post and these people’s fight to bag the position makes the audience laugh with their dialogues and acts. The director gave a strong message along with a good story.

Lifeu Ishtene

‘Lifeu Ishtene’ is another dark comedy, directed by Pawan Kumar and starring Diganth, Sindhu Lokanath and Samyukta Hornad. The 2011 movie is about a boy who is carefree and falls in love with everyone. Finally, he meets a girl and she gets married to someone else and he picks music as his career. Again, he falls in love with a journalist and finds out that she too is in love with someone else. The hero never getting a life partner is the real suspense in the movie which stays till the end. This film was well accepted by youngsters, especially the female audience.

Eddelu Manjunatha

‘Eddelu Manjunatha’ was one of the low budget movies directed by Guruprasad which starred Navarasa Nayaka Jaggesh, Yagna Shetty and Tabla Nani. This 2009 movie was about a lazy man who leads his life getting married and living off his wife's salary. ‘Eddelu Manjunatha’ won awards for its direction, screenplay and acting. This film had funny dialogues and artists gave their best performances.

Humble Politician Nograj

‘Humble Politician Nograj’ was one of the best Kannada comedy movies of 2018. It featured Danish Sait and Sumukhi Suresh in the lead rolez. The movie was written and directed by Saad Khan and produced under Pushkar Films, Lost and Found Films and Paramvah Studios. Danish Sait’s comic act in the movie, being a politician, received much appreciation. The plot of the film was based on the Hollywood movie ‘The Campaign’. The dialogue and expressions of Danish Sait gave a stronger comic shade to the story. Music was composed by Sricharan Pakala, Jeet Singh, DJ Jasmeet and Prajwal Pai. The film is about a politician who uses all the manpower for his own benefit. Vijay Chendoor, Roger Narayan, Sruthi Hariharan and Srinivas Prabhu also played pivotal roles in the movie.

Rambo 2

Rambo 2 was a sequel to ‘Rambo’ which was released in 2012. ‘Rambo’ became the best movie in 2012. Likewise, ‘Rambo 2’ too turned out to be another great comedy movie of 2018. This film was directed by Anil Kumar and produced by Atlanta Nagendra and Sharan. ‘Rambo 2’ was also one of the biggest comedy entertainers of the year starring Sharan and Ashika in the lead roles. Along with them, Ranganath, Chikkanna, P. Ravishankar and Tabla Nani too played major roles. The film received a lot of good reviews, and the second half of the movie was inspired by the 2015 Canadian film ‘Wrecker’. Sharan’s comic act was the highlight of the film.

Sankastahara Ganapathi

‘Sankastahara Ganapathi’ was an experimental comedy based on Alien Hand Syndrome. The movie starred Likith Shetty and Shruti in the lead roles. The film was about a cartoonist who goes on to achieve a lot in his life, but the neurological disorder called Alien Hand Syndrome affects his life. He still tries to marry his girlfriend. The movie was about how this disorder affects his life, and it is shown in a comic way. The film was directed by Arjun Kumar, and Nagabhushan and Achyuth Kumar played a major role in the movie.
