Every year the Sandalwood industry welcomes a flock of aspiring directors who are willing to experiment with novel concepts and ideas. While some succeed in wooing the audience, some have hard luck. Here we give you a rundown of directors who debuted in Sandalwood in 2018.

Mahesh Gowda

‘Ayogya’ was one of the blockbuster movies in 2018. Mahesh Gowda started his career as an assistant director under the guidance of famous director Yogaraj Bhat. Mahesh showed off all his expertise and experience by successfully pulling off a great movie for the audience. The movie reportedly ran successfully for more than 100 days.

Guru Dutt Ganiga

Guru Dutt Ganiga started his career from the movie ‘Ambi Ninge Vahisaitho’ with great stars like Ambareesh, Sudeep and Suhasini. The movie was well received by the audience but did not do as well as it was expected to do. ‘Ambi Ninge Vahisaitho’ was re-released after the death of Ambareesh.

Seena Hegde turned director for the movie ‘Kateyondo Shuruvagide’ which reportedly boasted of a great story. The Senna Hegde directorial starred Diganth which became a turning point for the actor.

Janardhan Chikkanna

Janardhan Chinnanna directed the movie ‘Gultu’. The movie received attention from the audience for its storyline. The Janardhan Chikkanna directorial starred newcomers and was received well by the audience. This movie has reportedly completed 100 days in theatres. Janardhan Chinnanna picked the story of technology to entertain the people.

For the movie, ‘Trunk’ Sandalwood witnessed another female director in the industry. Rishika Sharma is the granddaughter of famous Kannada film director GV Iyer. Rishika started her career by making a horror movie. The movie had good concept, but was not well-received by the audience.

Arjun Kumar, who built the story on the concept of ‘Alien Syndrome’, made a romantic movie. Arjun Kumar has previously worked as an assistant director in many television shows, put his experience to use with his film ‘Sankashata Kara Ganapathi’.
