​FIVE films of Dr Vishnuvardhan that every fan must-watch

Dr Vishnuvardhan was a legend in Kannada film industry. From Naagarahaavu to Aptharakshaka, he has played various roles on the silver screen. Dr Vishnuvardhan has worked in various languages films like Kannada, Tamil and Hindi. Celebrating his filmography, here’s taking a look at Dr Vishnuvardhan’s five best performances.

​Naagarahaavu

‘Naagarahaavu’ was one of the best performances of Dr Vishnuvardhan. It was based on three novels - Sarpa Mathsara, Ondu Gandu Eradu Hennu, and ‘Naagarahaavu’ written by TR Subba Rao. The film was directed by popular filmmaker Puttanna Kanagal. ‘Naagarahaavu’ marked Dr Vishnuvardhan’s debut as a hero. He played the role of an arrogant person who is not on good terms with anyone, and his teacher is always there to save him from any troubles. He falls in love, mistakenly kills his teacher and ultimately commits suicide. ‘Naagarahaavu’ was re-released several times.

​Gandhada Gudi

After ‘Naagarahaavu’ Vishnuvardhan played a villain in ‘Gandhada Gudi’ and earned a positive response from the audience for his acting. This movie was directed by Vijay, starring Vishnuvardhan and Rajkumar. Rajkumar, who is a forest officer, tries to protect the forest but antagonist Vishnuvardhan tries to kill him. Rajkumar and Vishnuvardhan later realise that they are brothers wherein Vishnuvardhan was kidnapped and brought up by another villain to take revenge on his father. In the climax, Rajkumar kills Vishnuvardhan and he dies on his mom's lap. This movie was a milestone in Rajkumar’s career.

​Bandhana

Vishnuvardhan played a doctor in this movie, who falls in love with his student Suhasini. When he tries to express his feelings to her, Suhasini tells him that she is getting married to her childhood friend. Later when Vishnuvardhan is informed that Suhasini’s husband is abusing her, he tries to save her and her baby, eventually sacrificing his life. This story was based on the novel Bandhana, written by Usha Navaratnanram and the film was directed by Rajendra Singh Babu. This movie won Best Feature Film in Kannada award at the 32nd National Film Awards.

​Veerappa Nayaka

‘Veerappa Nayaka’ was a patriotic movie, directed and produced by S Narayan starring Vishnuvardhan and Shruthi. Veerappa Nayaka is a son of a freedom fighter who follows his father's path in serving for the nation. But, his son turns into a terrorist. Veerappa Nayaka kills his son to save people. Vishnuvardhan earned a lot of praise for his acting in this film.

​Muthina Haara

‘Muthina Haara’ is another popular film of Vishnuvardhan and Suhasini, directed by Rajendra Singh Babu. Vishnuvardhan played a soldier who is admitted to an army hospital and meets nurse Suhasini. The couple gets married and turns parents to a baby boy. However, their son later passes away while Vishnuvardhan is captured and tortured by the Chinese. He manages to escape and dies in his motherland.
