Nataraj, who had previously worked as a dialogue writer for movies like

Style King

, Romeo and Orange, is delighted about his first release. He says, “The release of Wheelchair Romeo is a dream come true for me. In my college days, I used to watch many movies. Inspired by

Mata

, I decided to take up film direction as soon as I completed my graduation. I worked as an assistant director which gave me the confidence to direct the movie independently.”

Talking about Wheelchair

Romeo

, Nataraj says, “I took a cue from a television series in which a father takes his specially-abled son to prostitutes to fulfil his sexual desires, something that is not so common in our country. I developed a plot based on the same storyline by adding humour and realistic elements. In the movie, the father tries his best to find a match for his son, down with Tetraplegia syndrome (a condition in which a person is unable to voluntarily move the upper and lower parts of the body). Unable to do so, the father takes his son to a brothel where he falls in love with a blind prostitute. There is an emotional element, father-son bonding, hilarious conversations and four songs including a romantic and a flashback number. The performances of actors Rangayana Raghu, Suchendra Prasad and

Tabla Naani

make Wheelchair Romeo a complete entertainer.”

On why he zeroed in on a challenging subject in his debut film, Nataraj shares, “I felt the subject to be refreshing and not many have touched upon this. And I believe that comedy is my strength,” he signs off.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Women's Day wishes, messages and quotes !
