Actor Darshan, who has a career spanning of over 10 years, received his first Filmfare award for best actor (male) in Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna.
The historical film was a biopic on prominent freedom fighter from Karnataka, who fought the British. Rayanna was the army chief of the Kingdom of Kittur ruled at the time by Kittur Rani Chennamma. Darshan essayed the role of Sangolli Rayanna, while actress Jayapradha played the role of Rani Chennamma.

The film directed by Naganna also had Shashi Kumar and Nikita Thukral in important roles. The film released last November and recently celebrated its 175-day mark at the BO.
Darshan, who got his first Filmfare award, wasn't present at Hyderabad on July 20 for the award ceremony, but thanked his fans for the support lent by them. He said on Twitter, "Thanks a lot to all my fans & dears for wishing for 60th film fare Best Actor award to me for KVSR & Best Film KVSR." The film was supposed to be made at a high budget, making it the most expensive film in Kannada.
Meanwhile, Darshan's last release Bul Bul opposite newbie Rachita Ram is also doing well at the BO. The actor is currently working on Brindavana, a remake of Telugu film Brindavanam. South actress Karthika Nair is paired opposite him in the film. This will mark Karthika's Sandalwood debut. On winning the award, Karthika also congratulated Darshan on Twitter. She posted, "Congoo D!!U deserve it..#KVSR"
