Mahasharanu Haralaiah

Armed with a good script, the director has excellently narrated the story of Haralayya, a cobbler, who becomes a disciple of Basavanna after Linga Deeksha.

He has also portrayed excellently how Basavanna fought for equality in society in the 12th century itself. It is a movie with a lesson on equality for all types of audiences, particularly politicians.
It’s a simple story of Haralayya (Sridhar), a cobbler who becomes the follower of Basavanna (Ramesh Aravind) who works under king Bijjala (Ramakrishna). Basavanna becomes popular for his reformist movements and gives Linga Deeksha to one and all irrespective of caste.

Manchanna (Ramesh Bhat), a minister under Bijjala, and his cronies envy Basavanna for his popularity and hatch many plots to bring him bad name. But they get a big chance when Basavanna supports the marriage between Haralayya’s son Sheelavantha who belongs to a lower caste and Madhuvarasa’s daughter Lavanya from upper caste. It causes trouble among people. As a result, Basavanna has to leave Anubhava Mantapa and go to Koodala Sangama. Later, there is lot of drama, brilliantly brought on the big screen by the director, which bridges the gap between upper caste and lower caste.
Full marks to Ramesh Aravind, Sridhar, Ramesh Bhat and Ramakrishan for their brilliant performance. Music by Jimmi Raj is good and cinematography by Gauri Venkatesh is superb.
