TWICE's Nayeon gets candid about intense dieting struggles to get in shape for comeback
TWICE's Nayeon has shed light on her rigorous diet and fitness journey, revealing the behind-the-scenes struggles she faced ahead of her solo comeback. In a candid conversation on the Fridge Interview, hosted by fellow TWICE member Sana, Nayeon talked about the intense preparations for her return to the stage.
With the anticipation building for her comeback, the discussion naturally veered towards Nayeon's stage outfits and her dedication to fitness. Sana playfully remarked about hearing rumors of Nayeon's readiness to flaunt her abs, saying, "I was curious what outfit you would wear, and I heard from the staff that you’ve been working out a lot. I was wondering how you would come out, but during the jacket shoot, you were ready to take off your clothes?" as reported by Koreaboo.
To which Nayeon replied by disclosing that JYP Entertainment founder Park Jinyoung had advised her to get in shape for the comeback, "You’re revealing a lot on Fridge Interview… When we first started working on the album, PD Park Jinyoung said, 'It would be good if you got in shape'. So I thought I should work out". She acknowledged the frustration of striving for a certain physique, especially when comparing herself to fellow members like Momo, who seemed to effortlessly maintain defined abs.
Expressing her frustration over the inconsistent results despite her relentless efforts, Nayeon highlighted the disparities in body types and the challenges of achieving desired results through extreme measures like starvation and rigorous workouts. "But honestly, many people can relate to this. There are body types that don’t show much change even with exercise. What really frustrates me is for example, with Momo, she says she hasn’t done any ab workout for a year, but she still has them. Even if she eats and gets on stage, they’re still clearly defined", Nayeon remarked, reflecting on the disparity in outcomes even with dedicated exercise.
She further added, “But I had to starve and eat protein and work out every morning and evening, whenever I had time. Even after all that, I wondered if it was abs or just shadows. It would show one day and disappear the next". Despite the setbacks and moments of doubt, Nayeon emphasized her determination to persevere, stating, “But I still had to workout hard before the comeback”.
