The ongoing Jairangam, Jaipur Theatre Festival is drawing theatre lovers in droves. With veteran actors like Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Rakesh Bedi being part of the festival, people of Jaipur couldn't have asked for anything more. Mera Woh Matlab Nahi Tha on Tuesday written by Rakesh Bedi. The story , set in Delhi, revolves around Pritam Singh Chopra (Anupam) and Hema Roy (Neena) who meet after 35 years.
They not just recall the time they had spent with each other but also try to figure out what made them drift apart.The childhood sweethearts were forced to marry someone else, out of parental pressure.
All the three actors received a standing ovation from the audience after the conclusion of the play .
Another play which touched a chord among the audience was the play
Heengbagee Mami (The Shadow of Life). The play poignantly highlighted the struggle of Irom Sharmila, known as the Iron Lady of Manipur who has been on a hunger strike since 15 years demanding repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 along with the plight of people staying in Manipur. The play was directed by Sajida and was enacted by actresses Sarika Pareek and Savita Rani. It was presented by Treasure Art Association, Delhi.
The play , Helen, directed by Kismat Bano brought to the fore the problems faced by Helen Keller, who can't hear, speak and see. It showed how difficult is the task of teaching a seven-year-old child the 'language' through the sense of touch.
Piya Behrupiya, directed by Atul Kumar of The Company Theatre was a take on Shakespeare's play
