At a time when hope and courage are the need of the hour, several big names across the globe have been stepping up to join hands and lend their voices in the fight against COVID-19. And the latest to join the list is singer, Suneeta Rao. She has featured in a music video with Shenandoah University in a song called 'We Will Rise', along with seven soloists and 75 choir participants from around the world.
The six countries represented in the virtual choir performance include the United States of America, Canada, Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Africa, India and Nepal. They performed the much-acclaimed Stefan Youngblood’s song, 'We Will Rise', under the direction of Matt Oltman, Associate Professor of Voice and Director of Choral Activities. He is also known for his work as music director of the Grammy award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer.
'The song is about being positive and rising above the situation'
Suneeta in a video grab of the song ‘We Will Rise’ with the other soloists and choir participants from around the world.
Suneeta said, “I met Matt Oltman many moons ago. We had been in touch and he asked me to be a part of this international collaboration. Making the video was really amazing as it had university choirs that had done their own version of this song earlier, for different crisis situations in other countries. These artistes are from all across the world, with some of them not having proper access to the internet, so it was difficult for them to upload their recordings. Somehow, it all came across well. The song is about being positive and rising above the situation. It is only when you are on top of it with strength and positivity, can you make it your new normal, live and actually flourish within the circumstances.”
