Rumours don't affect us: Babul Supriyo

Alka Yagnik and Babul Supriyo will tap their musical chemistry in their first duet album of Tagore’s songs
Rumours don't affect us: Babul Supriyo
Babul Supriyo has released two solo Tagore albums. This year, the plans are bigger. The singer-turned-actor has roped in Alka Yagnik to record an album of Rabindra Sangeet duets for an album titled “Mone Robe”.
Says Babul, “During the past two Durga Pujas, I had recorded Tagore’s songs instead of cutting albums of Bengali modern songs. Following the success of those albums, my music label also insisted that I cut more Tagore albums.

Duets of Tagore songs have usually been recorded for Bengali movies. I thought it would be a good idea to record a duet album of Tagore’s songs. I believe, we can contemporize Tagore’s songs without spoiling the essence. Alkaji, who speaks Bengali fluently, has been brought up in Kolkata. She has never recorded any Rabindra Sangeet project before. When I told her about this project, she readily agreed.”
The album will have four romantic duets and some solo songs. Says Mahua Lahiri, the proprietor of a record label, “The duets are — “Amar o porano jaha chai”, “Mone rabe ki na rabe”, “Ami kebali swapano” and “Noi noi madhur khela”. Besides these, Alka Yagnik will sing four solo songs — “Amar bela je jai”, “Gopono katha ti” and “Balo sakhi balo”. Babul, on his part, will sing “O je mane na mana” and “Sakhi boye gelo bela”. While Babul recorded his songs in Kolkata today, Alka will dub her portions later on in Mumbai.”
Ask Babul about the musical chemistry he shares with Alka and he says, “We have sung innumerable romantic songs together including, “Hum tum”, “Aate aate aa gaye hum”, “Chori chori chupke chupke” and “Khoya khoya chand”. It will be great to record this album with her.” Incidentally, a lot has been said about Babul’s off-screen
friendship with Alka too. So, what does Babul have to say to that? As a parting shot, Babul says, “I believe, when you sing so many successful romantic songs together and do world tours together, I think it is but natural for this industry to ignite a few rumours. We remain unaffected and that’s why can work professionally so well and think of doing an album together.
