Ganapati’s musical connection

Traditionally the dhol tasha pathaks and the brass bands lend that frenzied tempo and rhythm to set the right mood for the Ganapati celebrations and processions. And with fun and celebrations in the picture, can the involvement of movies – both Bollywood and Marathi — be far behind? There have been numerous songs made in the reverence of the beloved elephant god and we list for you, a few of the popular ones.
Song: Deva Shree Ganesha Movie: Agneepath (2012) One of the things that worked immensely for this Hrithik Roshan starrer was its music and the song Deva shree Ganesha is one track that absolutely stood out.This devotional number is featured in the film while Hrithik is taking Ganesha for the immersion. The music makes liberal use of shankhs, chants, coupled with dhol and nagada and the effect is undoubtedly thrilling. And what less could be expected out of the music composer duo, Ajay-Atul, who have their roots in Maharashtra.
Song: Sindoor Laal Chadhayo Movie: Vaastav (1999) One of Bollywood’s most sincere and heart touching Ganesh aartis is featured in this movie that chronicled the life of the dreaded don Raghu, played by Sanjay Dutt. Director Mahesh Manjrekar used this high on adrenaline aarti, for a scene in the film that has the aarti picturised in the foreground and a gruesome police encounter in the background.
Song: Gajamukha Karto Jaijaikar Movie: Zapatlela 2 A catchy dance number praising the lord, Gajamukha Karto Jaijaikarhas been composed and sung by Avdhoot Gupte along with Vaishali Samant whose sharp voice adds to its mood. The song’s extended version has Swapnil Bandodkar’s voice too.
Song: Morya Re Movie: Don (2006) When Shah Rukh and Farhan Akhtar decided to remake this 1978 superhit with the same name, they ensured that the music was something that worked in their favour. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy came forth to make some splendid music for the film amongst which Morya re stands out. Sung by Shankar Mahadevan this song oozes raw energy and the music makes use of the traditional instruments. The visuals showcase the splendour of the festival in all its glory.
Song: Nache Dhin Dhinchak Movie: Bal Ganesh (2007) With so many Ganapati numbers being churned out by Bollywood, how can children’s movies can be far behind in their obeisance to Ganesha. Animated movie, Bal Ganeshhas a fun number picturised on the playful God who is seen enjoying himself in this fun number. Sung by Kailash Kher, the song has a disco feel to it.
Song: Morya Morya Movie: Uladhal (2008) With a background score by talented musician duo Ajay-Atul, the Marathi track Morya Morya is an all-time favourite which brings out one’s true emotions towards the magnificent deity.
Song: Bappa Morya Movie: Govinda (2013) This Marathi Ganesha track with powerful vocals by Shankar Mahadevan is filmed on Swwapnil Joshi. It has foot-tapping beats which have made it a favourite among music lovers this festive season.
Song: Sadda Dil Vi Tu Movie: Anybody Can Dance This uptempo song, heavy on beats and rhythm, is a quintessential dance number, the kind that makes you get up and get dancing. From the movie of one of the best dancers India can boast of, Prabhudheva, this song is a high energy number that brings in the cool quotient. Sung by Hard Kaur this bappa morya song has found a huge connect with the dancing dudes and divas and the young at heart.
