Recently, in an interview, Rahman discussed whether he ever took breaks from work to relax with Ali and others. The musician is at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where he released his music documentary Headhunting to Beatboxing.

When Sucharita Tyagi asked Rahman what he, Imtiaz Ali, and Irshad Kamil do when they aren't making music, Rahman replied, "That never happens."

Rahman responded, “I don’t really chill out because I don’t drink or smoke, so there's no traditional chilling for me. Clubbing, however, means music.” When asked about his free time activities, he enthused, “I head to Cannes! It's a break from music. Engaging in different things is my way of chilling.”

When Irshad Kamil, AR Rahman, Mohit Chauhan, and Imtiaz Ali collaborated for Netflix India, they discussed the creation of the popular song 'Vida Karo'. Describing it as a ‘magical experience,’ the filmmaker reminisced, “All of us were in a certain mood. But AR Rahman said, 'Let's put the lights off. Let's light the candles.’”

Ali mentioned they lit candles and sat in silence in different corners of the room. As Rahman played the piano, Imtiaz felt transported to a magical world'. “Truly, that was the most enjoyable experience, not just of Chamkila but perhaps of many films combined,” he said. 'Amar Singh Chamkila' features Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in lead roles.
