Music Review: 'Dishoom'

Bollywood: 'Dishoom' is the perfect masala album with a striking, crowd-pleasing quality. Pritam is in top form as he scores some delightful numbers, making the album an enthralling one. It begins with the title track 'Toh Dishoom'. Sung by Shahid Mallya with ample use of Raftaar���������s rapping, the song���������s highlight are its lyrics.The vocalists match each other���������s energy with unique zeal, adding oomph to the number. The right use of bass and Punjabi tadka give this one a distinct touch. With 'Sau Tarah Ke', the composer falls back in his 'Afghan Jalebi' mode. But expect Pritam to pop in a surprise, even when he is using his own stock beats. This time, it is Jonita Gandhi, who gives the song an edge. The Arabic lyrics lend an exotic flavour. As a song, 'Jaaneman Aah' is just about average. It has an intrinsic crowd-pleasing quality with the judicious use of drums. Nakash Aziz is spectacular, Aman Trikha is fascinating and Antara Mitra matches his energy with keenness but the lyrics are frankly, quite average and objectionable. If you take away its gorgeous leads and the foot-tapping beats, the dance number falls flat.
Abhijeet Sawant���������s voice is forgettable but Pritam whips up wonders with 'Ishqa'. It is an average composition with mediocre singing, but the composer infuses soul to it. There is the classic Middle Eastern vibe to it and with a little help from Antara, Pritam keeps up the tempo all the way till the end. And finally, who says remixes aren���������t fun enough? Well, Shefali Alvares and Mika Singh add freshness to the 'Desi Boyz' song 'Subah Hone Na De'. Though the original is a notch better, with the generous EDM vibe, Pritam nails this version. You���������ll end up liking this one, almost as much. 'Dishoom' is pacy, racy and keeps the music crisp, fitting well with the vibe of the film.
