Not everyone gets a second chance, but some movies surely deserve it. This year, it’s raining sequels in Bollywood. Some sequels have turned out to be bigger hits than the actual movies. In the past, we’ve witnessed sequels that are mostly flops and not as entertaining as the original movies. However, this year, few lucky directors have received an amazing response from the audience for their sequels. So here is our list of Bollywood sequels that went on to become hits…

Tanu Weds Manu Returns:

Tanu Weds Manu had released in 2011, and featured Bollywood’s Queen, Kangana Ranaut and South superstar, R Madhavan, playing the lead pair. The film was a romantic drama. The film was a big hit as it managed to attract the audience; the hatke dialogue and strong screenplay was loved by all. The film also stars Jimmy Sheirgill in the lead role. The sequel, Tanu Weds Manu Returns was released after a gap of four years. The movie saw Kangana Ranaut in a double role – one that of her previous character Tanu, and a Haryanvi girl, Datto. People loved Kangana’s Haryanvi dialogue along with her bold looks in the film.

Rom-com Pyaar ka Punchnama proved to be a sleeper hit. But it definitely grabbed the attention of the youth. The star cast comprised of only newcomers. The story was all about a group of three young guys, who are desperate to find girlfriends for themselves, but get involved in a messy affair. The movie recently came up with its second part, Pyaar ka Punchnama 2, with few changes in the cast. Kartik Aaryan, formerly known as Kartik Tiwari, created waves in Bollywood with his seven-minute long monologue, which is said to be the lengthiest long take scene done for a Hindi film.

Aashiqui was a ‘90s romantic musical-drama, starring Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal in lead roles. Its song, ‘Nazar ke samne…,’ is an all time hit. Later, in 2013, Aashiqui 2 was released. With Arijit Singh’s magical voice, the movie instantly became a blockbuster hit. The duo, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, were successful in recreating the magic that was witnessed in the previous movie. The plot of the story was fresh and people also loved the dialogue and the screenplay. Speculations about Aashiqui 3 have been doing the rounds.

This action-packed film, starring angry young man of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan., broke box-office records, with an estimated collection of Rs 10.25 billion in 1990. After almost 22 years, the magic was successfully recreated with Agneepath 2. The movie was a superhit with Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. It was important to cast a powerful antagonist for the role of Kancha and therefore the movie had Sanjay Dutt with his deadly villain looks.

This 3D dance drama of 2013 was directed and choreographed by none other than dance master Remo D’ Souza. It consisted of almost all of the contestants of the hit TV show, DID (Dance India Dance). The movie has jaw dropping dance sequences by Dharmesh, Punit, Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya etc. Songs like ‘Bezuban kabse mein...,’ and ‘Sadda dil vi...’ were huge hits. The movie went on to earn Rs 76 crore worldwide. The movie got its next sequel in 2015, with changes in the cast. It included Shraddha Kapoor and Varun Dhawan in the lead roles. The third sequel of the movie is also in the news. Though the cast of the third sequel is not yet confirmed, rumours suggest that Hrithik Roshan might have been approached for the lead role.

This super entertaining film of 2007 featured Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal and Malika Sherawat. The last scene of the movie was inspired by Charlie Chaplin’s movie, Gold Rush. The movie fared well at the box-office. The movie went on to generate a sequel, with John Abraham, Shruti Hasan, Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal, Naseeruddin Shah in lead roles. Welcome Back successfully entered the 100 crore club with an estimated collection of Rs 133.26 crore.

Dabangg 2:

Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor, Salman Khan’s Dabangg entered the Rs 100 crore club with box-office success of an estimated Rs 1.4 billion approx. The character names in the movie such as ‘Chulbul Pandey’ ‘Pandey Ji’ gained instant popularity. The dialogue by Sonakshi Sinha ‘Thappad se dar nahi lagta sahab, pyaar se lagta hai’ fetched applause and whistles in theaters. The movie soon came up with the second part, Dabangg 2, that opened with a big bang at the box office and even broke the records of Salman-starrer, Ek Tha Tiger. There are talks of the third film too.
