TOIFA 2016

It was a night that Dubai will not forget easily. Big Bollywood stars and celebs dazzled everyone present there with their presence and set the stage on fire with their amazing heartwarming performances. While King Khan, Shah Rukh, performed on his hits like 'Gerua', 'Chhaiyaan Chhaiyaan' and the latest rage 'Jabra Fan', 'Bhaijaan' Salman paid a tribute to the heroes of Bollywood. Energy bomb Ranveer Singh performed on the hits of the living legends of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan. Jacqueline and Varun did their part of making the audience breathless with their super performances. However, it was the night of the winners who won the awards for their contribution to the magical world of Bollywood. Read on to find all about the winners...

Best Film

Though Bhansali's 'Bajirao Mastani' almost stole the show and most of the awards, it lost to Salman Khan's 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' as the best film at TOIFA 2016. The saga of a deaf and mute Pakistani girl and the emotional portrayal of the good-hearted Indian, who helped her get back to her home, definitely deserved this title.

Best Director

Sanjay Leela Bhansali got the award for directing one of the best period dramas that Bollywood has seen in a long time, 'Bajirao Mastani'.

Best Actor - Male and Female

The power house of energy, Ranveer Singh, got the best actor for 'Bajirao Mastani', which was well deserved. 'Queen' Kangana Ranaut got the best actor female award for the movie 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns'.

Best Actor Critic's Choice - Male and Female

While the popular awards are important, equally covetted are the critic's choice awards.The best actor male in this category was won by none other than the legend Amitabh Bachchan for 'Piku', and the best actor female went to Kalki Koechlin for the movie 'Margarita With A Straw'

Best On-screen Jodi of the year

They sizzled and left the audience in tears with their performance in 'Bajirao Mastani', Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone rightly deserve this award!

Best Supporting Actor - Male and Female

'Bajirao Mastani' would have been incomplete with Priyanka Chopra in the film and rightly so, she got the best supporting actor female award. Anil Kapoor won the best supporting male actor award for his sterling performance in ‘Dil Dhadakne Do'.

Best Debut Actor - Male and Female

The handsome Sooraj Pancholi won the best debut male actor for his film 'Hero' and Bhumi Pednekar won it for her debut performance in 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha'.

Best Actor - Comic and Negative role

No film is complete without the negative character or without a comic relief in it. Deservingly, the award for best actor in negative role went to Nawazuddin Siddiqui for his amazing role in 'Badlapur', while Deepak Dobiyal won the best actor in comic role for 'Tanu Weds Mannu Returns'.

Best Playback Singer - Male and Female

Papon won the best playback singer male for his amazing rendition of the song 'Moh Moh ke Dhagey' from 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha' and the most talented Shreya Ghoshal won it for her soulful song 'Mohe rang do lal 'from 'Bajirao Mastani'.

Best Composer and Lyricist

Sanjay Leela Bhansali proved that apart from making amazing cinema, he can make music too. He won the best composer award for his music in his film 'Bajirao Mastani', while the young and talented Varun Grover won the best lyricist tile for the lyrics he penned for the song'Moh Moh ke Dhagey' from 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha'.

The best album award went to the Ranbir Kapoor starrer 'Roy' in which the music and songs were by Ankit Tiwari, Meet Brothers and Amal Mallik. The best song award went to the soul-touching song 'Hamari Adhuri Khaani'by Jeet Gangauli from the movie 'Hamari Adhuri Kahani'.

The legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan won the Lifetime Achievement Award rightly for having entertained three generations of movie lovers with his acting talent! From an angry young man to the refined roles that he is portraying now, this award is homage to this great talent of Bollywood!
