Salman Khan hit-and-run case: All that happened in the courtroom

Salman Khan isn't expected to appear before Bombay High Court for his bail hearing on May 8. According to sources close to his legal team, the law doesn't require him to be present during the proceedings. Advocates Harish Salve and Srikant Shivade, who will represent Salman in court, have challenged his conviction saying that the trial court had not considered his plea that he was not driving the car and that his family driver, Ashok Singh, was behind the wheel. Meanwhile, Supreme Court may also hear a plea by a Mumbai lawyer seeking cancellation of Salman's bail. The petitioner sought direction that Salman's bail should be cancelled and it should be heard by a competent court in regular course. He also sought framing of guidelines so that the manner in which Bombay High Court granted the two-day bail to Salman on May 6, could be made available to others convicted for similar charges.

Here's what happened at the court on May 6...

While the quantum of punishment was being decided, Salman Khan's lawyer spoke about the illness that the actor is suffering from, and that if he is jailed, then some conditions for the treatment need to be provided. However, Salman stopped his lawyer from reading further for lesser quantum. He was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. Salman had no expression on his face, no tears, his head was tilted down when Judge DW Deshpande announced the jail term.
