May 8, 5:55 pm: Salman Khan leaves court after bail
Salman Khan leaves the Mumbai sessions court after furnishing the bail bond of Rs 30000. The actor will remain a free man, at least till July 2015, when the Bombay High Court takes up the next hearing. The date for the next hearing will be decided on June 15, 2015. For now, Salman is on his way to Galaxy Apartments.

Salman Khan finally reaches the sessions court and is with his legal team. The actor surrenders before the court and furnishes the bail bond. He is released on bail, thus completing the formalities.

Salman Khan leaves for the sessions court from Gateway of India. The actor is sitting on the front seat, right next to his driver Ashok Singh. Around 700-800 of his fans are gathered there and are chanting his name. Salman is expected to reach the court in 15-20 minutes.

Salman Khan's legal team reaches the sessions court where the actor has to furnish the bail bond. However, that can only be done after he receives an order copy from the Bombay High Court. Salman is currently at his lawyer’s office at Gateway of India and will shortly reach the sessions court.

May 8: Salman was driving the car: Kamaal Khan in his 2002 statement
3-4 days after the incident, Kamaal Khan's statement was recorded in Marathi in which he revealed that it was Salman Khan who was driving on the fateful night. However, not using him as a witness in the case later on, is now the biggest loophole in the case. Kamaal is in London these days, while Salman is on his way to apply for fresh bail.

Senior lawyer Abha Singh, who is also a petitioner in the 2002 case, says that if Kamaal Khan is not brought back, the case can go in favour of Salman Khan. She says that not examining Kamaal Khan is the major loophole in the case, and the defence is using it in their favour. On the other hand, Salman will arrive anytime in the sessions court.

The five-year jail sentence for Salman Khan has been suspended in the 2002 hit-and-run case, and the actor will not be in custody. Salman will now have to apply for fresh bail and will continue to be a free man till the final verdict comes.

The judge asks the public prosecutor why the case should not be treated only as a case of rash driving. He further tells the public prosecutor that normal rule is that if appeal is admitted and sentence is not more than seven years, then it can be suspended. There should be reasons to depart from procedure, says the lawyer. He asks the public prosecutor why Salman should be kept in jail till the case is decided upon. On the Kamaal Khan issue, the prosecution now seems to be on the backfoot.

A die-hard fan of Salman Khan tries committing suicide outside the court where the bail plea in the Salman Khan hit-and-run case is being heard. The 20-something, who is sporting a Being Human T-shirt, collapses amidst the crowd, after having reportedly consumed poison. Apparently, the man holds the actor in high regards and is completely against him being sentenced to five years of imprisonment. He is now being taken to the hospital.

Salman's lawyer argues saying that even the investigating officer has said that there were four people in the car. He further says that prosecution has not proved Salman was driving the car. Also, he questions why driver Ashok Singh's statement was not recorded in the case.

The judge is asking why lower court was allowed to ask all the leading questions to Salman's bodyguard, Ravindra Patil. Salman's lawyer Amit Desai argues how it can take 30 minutes from JW Marriot Hotel to Galaxy Apartments at 100 km/hour. Also, he has called Ravindra Patil's statement artificial. Desai has also questioned why tyre burst evidence was not considered by the lower court.

May 8, 11:25 am: Defence brings in Kamaal Khan's angle
The hearing for bail plea has begun in the Bombay High Court. The judge has allowed Salman Khan's matter to be taken up first and is asking when culpable homicide was applied to the case. Lawyer Amit Desai has begun his arguement and is recounting the night of 27-28 September, 2002. Desai has further said that it's not disputed that there was an accident. He has also asked that Section-304 Part-II be removed. Kamaal Khan angle has suddenly been brought by Salman's lawyer. The judge is asking why was Kamaal Khan not examined.

Bombay High Court will hear Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's appeal against his conviction in the 2002 hit-and-run case and his plea for bail today.The lawyers have arrived outside the court. Salman's close friend Former MLA Baba Siddiqui is also present, while brother Arbaaz Khan and sister Alvira Khan have reached the court premises too.
