Ranbir Kapoor: Characters he brought to life on screen

Murphy - Barfi!

Ranbir Kapoor played the adorable deaf and mute boy, Barfi, which earned him the Filmfare Award in the Best Actor category. Named Murphy Johnson in the film, Ranbir Kapoor was at his humorous best in the film which was India's official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 85th Academy Awards. Ranbir's character, Barfi, was very mischievious and caused much nuisance but charmed everyone with his innocence. His endearing antics make him a complete match for the character.

Jordan - Rockstar

Ranbir Kapoor breathed life into the complicated character of Jordan who played an aspiring rockstar. The lovestruck musician falls in love with Heer and goes from India to Prague so as to experience a heartbreak which will bring him the pain that he was told is required to sing soulful songs that seem to emanate straight from the heart. How he portrayed various shades of emotions and performed like a real rockstar made him win the Filmfare Award in the Best Actor and Best Actor (critics) category.

Harpreet Singh Bedi - Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year

Ranbir Kapoor played a turban-clad Sikh, who turns his life into a success story even after everyone had written him off. While the film bombed at the box-office, it was well received by the critics. Ranbir even bagged the Filmfare Award in the Best Actor (Critics' Choice) category for the same. How he sets up a parallel company and runs it from within his employer’s office was mind-blowing and proved that he can do justice to mindful roles without romance and dance too.

Johnny Balraj - Bombay Velvet

Bombay Velvet may not have made it big at the cash counters but Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in the film did win him critical acclaim. Ranbir’s portrayal of the street fighter, Johnny Balraj, was appreciated. He did complete justice to the film that was set in the post-independence era when Mumbai was yet to become the giant city that it has now. He challenges the biggies in a bid to score with the jazz singer, Rosie. All of these reasons make Ranbir's performance applause-worthy.

Samar Pratap Singh - Raajneeti

A far cry from the cute, romantic characters that he had earlier played, Ranbir dared to experiment with a serious role in Raajneeti. His character even had shades of grey. His character in the film was rumoured to be loosely based on former Indian Prime Minister, Rajeev Gandhi. However, the actor pulled it through and won several award nominations in the Best Actor category.
