Valentine's Day: Woo your special someone with these iconic love-soaked dialogues from Bollywood movies

It's Valentine’s Day and that thing called love is in the air. Clichéd as it may sound, many believe that it’s the perfect time to go down on your knees and express your love to your beloved. And if you think you could do with a little help and inspiration in that department, Bollywood can come to your rescue. We put together some rather intense dialogues from Hindi cinema that might come handy if you are thinking of proposing to that special someone in your life, this Valentine's Day

Tips from Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone

This dialogue from the Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer might help you break the ice and pave the way for all things lovey-dovey. Replete with fantastic one liners, ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ is a modern day cult classic on love and friendship, that today’s generation swears by.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone to your rescue

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Mastani’ is a beautiful and tragic love story. It explores the romantic side of the18th-century brave Maratha general Bajirao Ballal Bhat, who fell head-over-heels for the lovely Mastani. Rumoured to be real life lovers, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone played the title roles in this historical saga. “Tujhe Yaad Kar Liya Hai Aayat Ki Tarah, Ab Tera Zikar Hoga Ibadat Ki Tarah,” said Deepika in all her sparkling brilliance in one of the scenes in the movie, when Mastani and Bajirao are parting ways after meeting for the first time.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Salman Khan’s iconic dialogue

This love soaked dialogue also comes from a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ starring Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the story of intense and passionate unrequited love. The musical that released in 1999 was the winner of 3 National awards and 9 Filmfare Awards. This dialogue – “Agar Tum Mujhe Yun Hi Dekhti Rahi ... To Tumhe Mujhse Pyar Ho Jayega” – was recently recreated in the Deepika Padukone-Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’.

Learn from Preity Zinta and Aamir Khan

‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was a film that was ahead of its time. It released in 2000 and 17 years since it hit theatres, it is still relevant. And so is this dialogue from the movie – “Mujhe Yakeen Hai Ki Mein Sirf Isliye Janma Hoon … Ki Tumse Pyar Kar Sakun … Tum Sirf Isliye, Ki Ek Din Meri Ban Jao.” Aamir Khan and Preity Zinta’s love story was all about a boy-who-does-not-believe-in-love falling in love with a girl-who-is-all-about-love stories.

How Aamir Khan expressed his love to Kajol

Said in a lighter mood by the hero of the movie Aamir Khan to the lovely Kajol, these beautiful lines from ‘Fanaa’ could be an instant pick-me-up. The movie itself, boasted of some powerful dialogues replete with poetry and impromptu musical numbers. However, in a sea of saccharin, this dialogue stood out - “Kehte Hai Pyar Mein Neend Udh Jaati Hai ... Koi Humse Bhi Mohabbat Kare ... Kambhakt Neend Bahut Aati Hai.”

Lesson in love from Shah Rukh Khan

These powerful poetic lines from the King of Hearts, Shah Rukh Khan are sheer magic. Penned by Gulzar and narrated by Khan in his rich baritone, to music by maestro AR Rahman, this dialogue is for the die-hard romantics. Continuing with his cinematic legacy of wooing women with a hint of old worldly charm, Shah Rukh Khan stands out as Major Samar Anand in this film that was director Yash Chopra’s swan song.

Yash Chopra’s classic tale of love

These lines are undoubtedly one of the most iconic and memorable ones ever penned in Indian cinema. Thanks to his rich baritone, Amitabh Bachchan makes them sound even more beautiful and intense. Directed by Yash Chopra, ‘Silsila’ was a coup of sorts when it came to the casting of the movie. Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Rekha in the lead roles, ‘Silsila’ boasted of powerful performances, music that could melt your heart and dialogues that would stay with cinephiles for decades to come.
