Bollywood celebs that passed away in 2018

It is always inevitable to lose great actors and artists who pass away either due to old age or some form of tragedy. This year has been no exception in that regard. 2018 has seen some major celebrity demise, the most prominent one being actress Sridevi, whose untimely loss left everyone stunned. So here is a look at some B-town celebs who left us and celebrate their contributions to cinema.

Sridevi

This actress’s untimely death was really highly publicized and left everyone in shock which literally took weeks to recover from. Sridevi passed away in Dubai due to accidental drowning in her bathtub. Of course her tragic demise crippled Boney Kapoor and his family on an unprecedented level. Her cremation in Mumbai was also a national affair as thousands of fans gathered to get a glimpse of the veteran actress one last time. Of course her contribution to cinema requires no mention as she ruled the hearts of millions in her heyday.

Sujatha Kumar

The latest Bollywood actress who passed away was Sujatha Kumar. The actress is mainly known for playing Sridevi’s sibling in the film ‘English Vinglish’. Sujatha has been battling with cancer for some time and succumbed to the prolonged illness on August 19th. Her sister Suchitra Krishnamoorthi shared the tragic news with her followers on social media. Other than her untimely demise, her connection with the late actress Sridevi only made her passing that much sadder.

Rita Bhaduri

Another veteran actress who left us all grieving with their passing was Rita Bhaduri. The 62 year old actress breathed her last, last month when she was admitted to a hospital due to kidney ailments. Her contributions to cinema include a slew of supporting roles during the 70s, 80s and 90s. An FTII alumnus, she also played several roles in television, making her an integral part of Indian cinema.

Arjun Hingorani

Arjun Hingorani was a veteran filmmaker and producer who passed away in his 90s. His demise came on May 5, 2018 and he was mourned by many in Bollywood. His most notable achievement remains to be launching legendary actor Dharmendra in 1960 with the film ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’. He is also known for the making the first Sindhi film in India titled as ‘Abana’.

Nargis Rabadi aka Shammi

Nargis Rabadi, better known as Shammi and later on as Shammi aunty was a veteran actress who had appeared in more than 200 films. The actress passed away on March 6, at the age of 88. Shammi was majorly in demand during 1949 to 1970 when she was sought after in particular for comical roles. Moreover, she has also played several roles as the lead and second lead actress well, making her contribution to Bollywood really incomparable.

Narendra Jha

Another shocking death came this year in the form of Narendra Jha’s untimely demise. The actor passed away the age of only 55 from a massive heart attack in Nashik on April 29th. He is known for his supporting roles in many Bollywood films as well as regional films such as Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Raees’, Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Haider’, Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Kaabil’ among many other works. His last work was in Salman Khan starrer ‘Race 3’, where he played a character called Khanna.

Ava Mukherjee

Ava Mukherjee is another face who was known nationally through various commercials and supporting roles in films. The actress passed away on January 15 at the age of 88. Interestingly, her Bollywood career did not kick off till the year 2000. Her major breakthrough came with the film ‘Devdas’ in 2002, where she played Shah Rukh Khan’s grandmother. She went on to do ‘Darna Zaroori Hai’ in 2006 and ‘Detective Naani’ in 2009. In spite of not doing several Bollywood films, she was a real familiar face across the country.

Srivallabh Vyas

Srivallabh Vyas was also an actor who was snatched from the world far too soon. He breathed his last on January 7 this year in Jaipur. The actor was struggling with physical ailments for quite some time ever since his paralytic attack in 2008. He has appeared in several famous Bollywood films such as ‘Sarfarosh’, ‘Shool’, ‘Lagaan’, ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Abhay’ and ‘Aan: Men at Work’. His death was mourned by one and all especially by his ‘Lagaan’ co-stars.

Raj Kishore

Raj Kishore, who was particularly known for playing a small role in ‘Sholay’ along with Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan, was another tragic loss Bollywood had to face this year. The actor passed away at the age of 85 in April after he suffered cardiac arrest. His other notable contribution includes films like ‘Deewar’, ‘Padosan’, ‘Hare Rama Hare Krishna’, ‘Bombay to Goa’ among many others.
