With a larger-than-life persona, Bollywood celebrities not only influence the style and trend among their fans and followers, but also considerably impact their way of thinking and their deeds. Knowing that their actions have power to persuade and manipulate, they have very graciously associated themselves with various social causes to be the change they wish to see around them. Here we take a look at actors who stood for a cause, right from fighting for the rights of women to girl child education to spreading awareness about sexual harassments and more.

Priyanka Chopra

Bollywood’s Desi Girl is a global star today and so is her reach and power to influence. Priyanka Chopra is one of the most known names in the Asian continent where along with her acting abilities, her humanitarian works are also equally known.

The actress reportedly donates 10 per cent of her earnings to her foundation which she had set up to promote health and education. It is said that the actress started this foundation when she came to know that her family’s housekeeper sent her son to school, leaving her daughter at home.

She is also an ambassador at a global level foundation for promoting girls’ education.

Nana Patekar

He is touted to be one of the best actors this industry has and he is also undoubtedly one of the best human beings one can come across. The person who apparently did some odd jobs like painting the zebra crossing lines on the roads and movie posters became one of the most generous donors.

The ace actor reportedly donated Rs 15000 per family to almost 62 families of the farmers who committed suicide in Marathwada region. He also visited about 112 families personally in the region.

A foundation that he has founded along with a Marathi actor Makrand Anaspure predominantly works for the welfare of the farmers. Despite being one of the most revered actors of Bollywood and Marathi industry, the actor still lives humbly in a one BHK apartment with his family.

Kalki Koechlin

While Bollywood actors have influenced their followers outside their work arena, kalki Koechlin is one actress who has used her cinematic platform too to take up various issues and create awareness about the same. She has films like ‘Maragarita With A Straw’, ‘That Girl In Yellow Boots’ and others to her credit in this regard.

The actress has used various public platforms to voice against vigilance against women. Kalki also has poems like 'Noise', 'Dear Men', 'It's Your Fault', 'The Printing Machine' and others which highlight the dilemma of women.

The actress, who herself has been a victim of sexual abuse as a child, speaks openly about these matters. She has also, at various occasions, taken up the issue of sanitation health amongst women.

Dia Mirza

Apart from her stunning beauty and acting chops, the Bollywood actress is actively involved in various causes and campaigns. She has reportedly lent her support to various causes that include female foeticide and HIV awareness. She is also an active member of the Cancer Patients Aid Association.

Apart from these humanitarian causes, Dia has also been a nature lover. The fact that she has reportedly adopted two leopard cubs namely Ashoka and Nakshatra in a zoological park in Lucknow is a proof of the same. She also recently had a baby rhino named after her in Kenya.

Reportedly, she has recently been appointed UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India.

Taapsee Pannu

Although Taapsee Pannu is not new in the industry, her new image in the industry that she has very successfully created with her choice of films and performance is taking the actress places. Similar to her films, she has been very vocal about women empowerment in real life too.

The actress has been very actively involved in various social works and initiatives. She has not only been creating awareness about women’s rights and issues but has also been working on the same.

Taapsee has been associated with NGOs who work for rape victims and girl child education. She has also been reportedly sponsoring about 10-20 girl children in a bid to push for gender equality.

Farhan Akhtar

He is an actor, writer, singer, producer and TV host. Farhan Akhtar, with his multiple talents, has successfully made his mark in the industry. Apart from his works related to the showbiz, he is also actively involved in various social causes and campaigns.

He is also one actor in Bollywood who wears his heart on his sleeves and never shies away from keeping his point of view on various issues.

As far his social works are concerned, Farhan is specially known for his social campaign ‘Men Against Rape and Discrimination’ (MARD) initiative. Soon after its launch it not only became a trending topic on the social media but it also received positive feedback from all quarters.

The actor has also been reportedly using the power of music to spread social awareness. He has been doing concerts globally and spreading awareness on violence against women through his band Farhan Live.

Bollywood superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Vidya Balan and others are also engaged in supporting various social causes.
