Beef ban: Bollywood reacts on Twitter

Dadri lynching: Farhan Akhtar expresses outrage

Outraged over the lynching incident in Dadri, actor Farhan Akhtar said that the guilty should get strict punishment to send a strong message and that such kangaroo justice will not be allowed. In an emotionally-charged post on Facebook, the filmmaker-actor also decried the political circus over the killing of a 50-year-old man by a mob in his village after rumours that he and his family had consumed beef. "They (culprits) should be given the harshest punishment to send a message out that this sort of kangaroo justice will not be allowed in our nation. It's the aftermath with the routine insensitive quotes from politics leaders, some blatantly blaming the victims eating habits, others sheltering the accused, that have already started creating the blueprint for what is to follow. This is going to turn into a circus with all the usual suspects having a go at each other, trying to score PR points. The police sprung into action and have sent the meat from the dead victims house for Forensics!!! Need one say more about how twisted this is beginning to get," Farhan said, wrote Farhan.

Beef Ban: Bollywood reacts on Twitter

According to a report on Bollywoodlife.com, Anushka Sharma, who recently gave up meat for the love of animals, does not support the beef ban imposed in Maharashtra. Explaining her decision to turn vegetarian, Anushka had said that she became vegetarian because she is an animal lover, the report stated. The report quoted the actress giving another reason to turn vegetarian - when an animal is killed, there’s a lot of negative energy stored in it, and that she is feeling much calmer since she turned vegetarian. Expressing her views on the recent ban on beef, Anushka said that the beef ban doesn’t affect her as she is against killing animals, but it’s taking away someone’s food, the report concluded.

Beef ban: Bollywood reacts on Twitter

There's been a hue and cry ever since the Maharashtra government announced a ban on the sale and possession of beef in the state, under the Maharashtra Animal Preservation (amendment) Act (MAPA), 1995, which received President Pranab Mukherjee’s nod too. While there was already a ban on the slaughter of cows, the Maharashtra government has gone a step further by putting a blanket ban on the slaughter of bulls, bullocks and calves also. Reportedly, the slaughter of female buffaloes and buffalo calves can continue but with the required permissions in place. The punishment for not following the beef ban will be non-bailable and the punishment will be five years in prison and a fine of Rs 10,000. This ban had also become a trending topic on micro-blogging site Twitter and celebrities are voicing their opinions too. Here's a look at what they have to say.
