B-town reacts to Mulayam and Abu Azmi's rape comment

Samjawadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav irked the entire nation, especially women with his sexist insensitive comment on rape. Mulayam Singh Yadav was opposing the anti rape law at a rally in Moradabad on Thursday. He was quoted saying, "rape accused should not be hanged. Men make mistakes... Handing death sentence for rape is not fair... boys make mistakes... there will be changes in the law if we come to power . Efforts will be made to change such a law so that those misusing it are punished. Those filing false reports will also be taken to task. When their friendship ends, the girl complains she has been raped." The SP chief was citing the recent example of the Shakti Mills gang rape case where a young photo journalist was gang raped by five men inside the compound, out of which three of the accused had also earlier raped a 19 year old girl. The three accused were given the death penalty. Following in the heels of Mulayam Singh, Abu Azmi of the Samajwadi Party went on to shock the nation further. According to a report in Mid-Day, he was quoted saying, "Rape is punishable by hanging in Islam. But here, nothing happens to women, only to men. Even the woman is guilty. In India, if you have sex with a person with consent, it's fine. But if that same person complains, it's a problem. Nowadays, we see a lot of such cases. Girls complain when someone touches them, and even when someone doesn't touch them. It becomes a problem then, and the man's honour is ruined in this. If rape happens with or without consent, it should be punished as prescribed in Islam." Bollywood celebs have reacted to the insensitive comments made by the duo on micro blogging site Twitter.

First up is former Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia Azmi, whose father-in-law Abu Azmi has been accused of making the shocking statements. She took to twitter saying, " If what I'm reading about my father-in-law's statements is true then me and Farhan are deeply embarrassed and ashamed... We surely do not share this mindset... It's disrespectful to women. If these statements are true then it's sad."
Vir Das- "Abu Azmi.....What a steaming pile of horseshit... I'm sorry... I know this isn't funny... I didn't think he deserved a punchline."

Farhan Akhtar- "Cannot get over MS Yadav's comment on rapists- 'Boys will be boys.. They make mistakes'. It's pathetic! Abu Azmi meanwhile, wants to hang women who willingly have sex. I think he needs to hang up his boots & seek medical attention ASAP."
Arjun Rampal- "The comments by our political giants on rape victims is down right appalling. Let those boys make the same mistakes on their mothers and sisters. Divya Dutta: But with no bias why is everyone slapping Kejriwal! Why don't they dare it with a few others? Shruti Seth: Are the leaders of the Samajwadi Party playing tag in making stupid comments? They seem to be on a roll. Someone slap them please."
Sanjay Gupta- "Mulayam Singh and Abu Azmi. Regressive, redundant and retarded thinking. Absolute shame! Are they looking for votes of rapists?"
Nikhil Advani- "At least we can object and react. I pity the people around Mr. Abu Azmi who have no choice but to tolerate such an individual."

Mulayam Singh Yadav ji Aurat kae baare mae kya Sochte hai?"
Raveena Tandon- "Malayan Singh Yadav and Medha Patkar !!!!!!!!!! Really ??????? And you think now India will vote for you?"
Kamaal R Khan- "Mulayam said boys should not be punished if they rape girls and Abu Azmi said that girls should be hanged if they have sex. They are mentally sick people. Women should attack and throw stones on houses of SP leaders all over India to teach them lesson so they will learn to respect women."

At two separate events, Vidya Balan and Dia Mirza voiced their opinion on the same.
Vidya Balan- "Capital punishment is a very contentious issue but it is the worst of crimes that should not be pardoned. I completely disagree with anyone who says that 'boys will be boys, they will make mistakes." "Now this is sure that I will not give my vote to him (Yadav)," she added.
Dia Mirza- Actress-producer Dia Mirza finds the statement by the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister "appalling" and "saddening".
"When I hear comments like this, I don't know how to react as a woman, how to react as a human being. I think it is appalling and saddening that there are such people in our society, who have such small, such irrevocable thoughts," Dia said. "This statement reflects not just their lack of character, insenstivity but also lack of humanness. It is very sad," she added.
Jai Kalra- "What's wrong wid these ppl, have they lost it."
