Aishwarya Rai Bachchan reveals Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to cast her in ‘Padmaavat’

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has worked with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in many films like 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', 'Devdas' and 'Guzaarish'. In the past, there was much speculation about them working in other films after that as well. It was highly reported that Bhansali wanted to make 'Bajirao Mastani' with Salman Khan and Aishwarya for the longest time. However, after their split, the project happened with Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh.

In a recent interview, Aishwarya was asked about working with Sanjay again. The actress was asked when she will give her nod to a Bhansali project, to which she said that they were supposed to work together in 'Bajirao Mastani', but Sanjay couldn't get the Bajirao for her. She proceeded to say that he didn’t get a Khilji for her as well, indicating that he wanted her to do 'Padmaavat', but could not find the right Khilji at the casting time.

Aishwarya added that she would love to work again with the auteur.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play a surrogate mother in her next?

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is currently busy with Atul Manjrekar's 'Fanney Khan' which also stars Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. After finishing with this project Aish is reportedly said to be onboard the remake of 'Raat Aur Din'.

Now, we hear that the 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil' actress has been approached with a new film in which she's been offered the role of a surrogate mother. The film is reportedly said to be based on a real-life story set in Gujarat. Co-produced by Prernaa Arora and Shree Narayan Singh the project is titled as 'Jasmine'. Talking about Aishwarya's casting in the film Prernaa reportedly said that she would be happy to have Aish in the film but it would all depend on her availability.

Raja Hindustani

While the beauty queens are known for heading straight to Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan chose to be different. The actress already had four films in her kitty when she was chosen for the Miss India pageant. The diva was set to make her Bollywood debut with Raja Hindustani opposite Aamir Khan but chose to participate in the pageant, which got her the Miss World crown. She was director Dharmesh Darshan’s dream girl for the role, as he found her to play the perfect city girl against the village boy, played by Aamir. But as luck would have it, Aishwarya made a tough choice, paving way for Karisma Kapoor who went on to became the heroine of the blockbuster.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had refused Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), all because of her date diary. The former Miss World claimed that unlike any newcomer, her work schedule was always packed with multiple films in her kitty, due to which she could not accept KKHH, which ultimately went to Kajol. Aishwarya’s film, Jeans, released in the same year which was followed by four big films the next year, in 1999, including Aa Ab Laut Chalen, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Taal. Well, who could be more thankful to her than Rani Mukerji who tasted super stardom with this blockbuster.

Dostana

After losing out on Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan turned down his second offer, Dostana, due to the same issue – her jam-packed date diary. Moreover, there was another reason behind her refusal. Aishwarya, Abhishek and Saif Ali Khan were chosen for Dostana, but since the story was actually about two guys, Abhishek’s real life partner Aishwarya moved out of the film. Later, Saif too opted out, paving way for John Abraham. However, we don’t seem to complain as the Dostana we got to see was a blockbuster and desi girl Priyanka Chopra just left us thrilled.

Heroine

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the first choice for Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine, but her unexpected pregnancy made her opt out of the film in the production stage. Reportedly, there was a huge spat between the actress and the filmmaker as the project was announced amid much fanfare at Cannes Film Festival. This also made way for the no-pregnancy pact in Bollywood. However, the role finally went to Kareena Kapoor who did a wonderful job and emerged as the ultimate Heroine.

Chalte Chalte

Had Salman Khan not barged in on the sets of Chalte Chalte, Aishwarya would have featured in the film that ultimately went to Rani Mukerji after the incident. Salman and Aishwarya’s relationship had hit the troubled waters in those days. When the Dabangg Khan created a huge ruckus on the sets and broke into a big fight with SRK, it became impossible to shoot the film. As a result, Aishwarya was finally replaced by Rani in the romantic film which was a success at the box office.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa

Can you imagine Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Manjulika performing Vidya Balan’s most dynamic dance number, ‘Mere dholna sun’ in Bhool Bhulaiyaa? Possibly not, as Vidya Balan played the role of a woman hosted by the ghost of Manjulika in the film with excellence. Aishwarya was originally offered the role, but the actress said no to the ‘haunted’ role. The film was a box office success and is still remembered for Vidya’s fantastic ‘Manjulika’ act.

Veer Zaara

One would not believe that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan missed out on Yash Chopra’s Veer Zaara that went on to win the Most Popular Film award at the National Film Awards, besides the Filmfare Award for the Best Film. The former Miss World was the first choice for the role of lawyer Saamiya Siddiqui in Veer Zaara, which finally went to Rani Mukerji. However, Aishwarya’s loss turned into Rani Mukerji’s gain as the Bengali diva won a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
