When Amitabh Bachchan laid the foundation stone for ‘Aishwarya Bachchan Kanya Mahavidyalay’, but left midway: Here’s what happened next
The Bachchan family, often regarded as Bollywood royalty, has a legacy that intertwines with the cultural fabric of India. Amitabh Bachchan, a towering figure in Indian cinema, has enjoyed a career spanning over six decades, captivating audiences with his performances.
However, a promise made by him in 2008 to establish a college in honour of his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has become a poignant tale of unfulfilled aspirations.
In January 2008, Amitabh Bachchan, alongside his family, laid the foundation stone for a college named the ‘Aishwarya Bachchan Kanya Mahavidyalay’ in Daulatpur village, located in Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh. This initiative was seen as a significant step towards enhancing educational opportunities for young women in the region. The event was attended by prominent figures, including local politicians, and was marked by a sense of optimism and community spirit.
However, despite the initial enthusiasm, the project soon fell into stagnation. As per News 18 report, Amitabh Bachchan entrusted the Nishtha Foundation, led by actress Jaya Prada, with the college's development. Unfortunately, the project did not progress as intended, leaving the villagers disheartened. They had even offered over 10,000 square meters of land for the college's construction, but the promise remained unfulfilled for years.
By 2018, after a decade of waiting, the villagers of Daulatpur decided to take matters into their own hands. Led by Satyawan Shukla, a dedicated teacher, the community rallied together to establish a degree college independently. They acquired a separate piece of land, just 500 meters from the original site, and managed to raise approximately Rs 60 lakh for the project. Shukla’s family contributed 10,000 square meters of land, and through collective efforts, the Daulatpur Degree College was inaugurated, fulfilling the dream that the Bachchan family had once promised.
Amitabh Bachchan continues to be a prominent figure in the film industry. His latest work includes a significant widely acclaimed role of Ashwatthama in the science fiction film Kalki 2898 AD. The film, directed by Nag Ashwin, features an ensemble cast, including Prabhas and Deepika Padukone. Bachchan's portrayal in this futuristic narrative has further solidified his status as a versatile actor.
In a recent blog post, Amitabh Bachchan hinted at exclusive screenings of Kalki 2898 AD for fans. He wrote, "We are in the process of planning to show to a few limited the film KALKI and I work towards it .. but please do not take this as an invitation yet .. the planning is in process .. IN PROCESS .. it may fructify it may not .. My love till then and more ❤️." He cautioned fans that this is not an official invitation, as the planning is still underway.
In addition to his film commitments, Amitabh is also busy hosting the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) for its latest season. He frequently shares behind-the-scenes glimpses from the show on his social media platforms, engaging with his fans and keeping them updated on his latest endeavors.
