The Naseeruddin Shah-Kalki Koechlin starrer 'Waiting' is not only garnering positive feedback on social media, but also attracting cinegoers for its touching story. It is about two strangers who are poles apart but become friends while waiting for their respective spouses to receuperate. Viewers are drawing parallels between director Anu Menon's film and last year's sleeper hit 'Piku'.
The unlikely pairing of Naseer-Kalki is reminiscent of Amitabh Bachchan-Deepika Padukone in Shoojit Sircar's comedy drama.
Their endearing performances have been applauded by the audience. Both movies explore a subject that people don't openly discuss. While 'Piku' talked about bowel movements and mortality, 'Waiting', produced by Priti Gupta and Manish Mundra, is about the fear of losing your loved one. The witty dialogues and the lead pair's contrasting outlook on life show an attempt to bridge the generation gap, creating real-life situations with heart-warming and hilarious moments in equal measure. Menon says, 'All our social media feeds are filled with such beautiful audience responses that sometimes I think the poet in everyone has woken up. We aren't getting one-word feedback like 'good stuff' or 'superb'. We are receiving essays and poems from people on how they have related to the film.'
'Waiting', produced by Ishka Films and Drishyam Films, is currently playing in cinemas across India.
