Theatres opened up in 2021 but still there are quite a few films that made their way to streaming platforms. There was a plethora of entertainment as thrillers, dramas and emotional sagas ruled OTT space. From Kartik Aaryan’s impressive act in ‘Dhamaka’ to Vidya’s gripping performance in ‘Sherni’ – here’s taking stock of the top five OTT movies of the year.

Dhamaka

With this ‘dhamaka’, Kartik Aaryan pulled off a serious role with great ease. Shedding his chocolate boy image, the actor won hearts with this hard-hitting drama and treated fans to his never-before-seen avatar. Kartik Aaryan’s gripping performance in ‘Dhamaka’ emerged as a massive surprise for fans in 2021.

Sardar Udham

Vicky Kaushal’s performance in ‘Sardar Udham’ struck a chord with the audience. After ‘URI’, the actor successfully delivered yet another patriotic narrative. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, this film paid a tribute to unsung hero — Sardar Udham Singh. Vicky Kaushal received a lot of praise for his seasoned performance in this OTT release.

Sherni

Trust Vidya Balan to always deliver an ace performance and with ‘Sherni’ she did just that. The actress shouldered the responsibility of a female forest officer and fought odds too in a patriarchal world. In true sense, Vidya Balan emerged as a ‘Sherni’ with this entertainer. With Amit Masurkar calling the shots, the audiences were treated with yet another thundering performance by Vidya.

Mimi

Kriti Sanon received a lot of love for essaying the role of a surrogate mother in ‘Mimi’. Beyond her swift dance moves in ‘Param Sundari’, Kriti’s raw and emotional performance of a mother made the audience fall in love with her. Acting stalwarts like Pankaj Tripathi and Manoj Pahwa positively accentuated the film’s performance.

Toofaan

Farhan Akhtar impressed everyone with his physical transformation for this sports drama. He not just excelled in the boxing sequences but his emotional performance was also applause-worthy. Farhan Akhtar reunited with ace filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra to deliver an impressive act. His boxer performance was beautifully supported by Mrunal Thakur, who essayed Farhan’s lady love.
