Urmila Matondkar announced her return to acting in 2022 with an OTT series titled Tiwari. However, reports surfaced that the project had encountered difficulties and was stalled. The series follows Kalki, played by Urmila, who is released from prison after serving time for a crime she did not commit, and 14 years later, she sets out to find the person who framed her.

Producer Utpal Acharya in conversation with Hindustan Times informed that Tiwari was shot in a start-to-end schedule in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and media reports suggesting a delay in the project are all untrue. Moreover, there were no creative differences with the director
Saurabh Varma. The series is currently in the post-production stage and they are aiming to release it in February 2026.

He further mentioned that they have almost finalized the OTT platform but cannot reveal the name yet. The platform will announce it soon once everything is ready on their side. Initially, there were 7 episodes of 50 minutes each, but the platform changed it to 14 episodes of 25 minutes each. Since it is a revenge-thriller drama, abrupt cuts were not possible, which caused the delay in post-production.

He spoke further on Urmila’s dedication, saying, “Urmila is kicked about the release. She used to be ready at 5:30 am with hair and makeup (HMU) if her call time was at 6 am.”
