Swara Bhasker, Javed Akhtar, Sonu Sood: Bollywood celebs react to the Russia-Ukraine conflict

All eyes are on the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Moscow has reportedly launched an all-out invasion of Ukraine by land, air and sea on Thursday. It is being called the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since World War 2. Many Bollywood celebrities took to their social media handles to voice their opinion. From Swara Bhasker, Javed Akhtar to Sonu Sood, here's what B-Town celebs have to say about the ongoing conflict.

Richa Chadha, who has never shied away from voicing her opinion in matters of importance, took to her Twitter handle to react to the Russia-Ukraine crisis. She wrote, ‘Every annexation/withdrawal of troops that push a country back into the Dark Ages/new data privacy rules, everything that’ll happen now will happen to ‘further democracy’ and in ‘national interest’. (If people don’t fight for freedom, we’ll be glorified serfs again badhai (sic).’

While others have been giving their serious opinions on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, actor Arshad Warsi tried to lighten the mood by sharing a meme from his film ‘Golmaal’ as an attempt to explain the situation. He posted a video featuring himself, Ajay Devgn, Sharman Joshi and Rimi Sen and tagged them as America, Russia, Ukraine and rebel held areas of Ukraine. Needless to say, he was trolled massively on social media and was even tagged as being ‘insensitive’.

In a heart-wrenching note, Tillotama Shome wrote that nothing can be uglier than war. Her Twitter post read, ‘I worry incessantly for my mother who is battling cancer in the midst of covid. But when I think of the families and cancer patients in the middle of war, my brain just ceases to comprehend. Nothing absolutely nothing is uglier than war. Mothers don't give life for war (sic).’

Swara Bhasker is one actress in Bollywood who wears her heart on her sleeve and never minces her words. Reacting to the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, Swara took to her Twitter handle and wrote, ‘This is literally world politics right now sounding as @futterwackening said like a bad Bollywood film dialogue (sic).’

Bollywood’s messiah Sonu Sood also couldn’t keep himself from reacting on the Russia-Ukraine issue. He wrote on Twitter, ‘There are 18000 Indian students and many families who are struck in Ukraine, I am sure Government must be trying their best to get them back. I urge Indian Embassy to find an alternate route for their evacuation. Praying for their safety. #IndiansInUkraine (sic).’

Javed Akhtar never shies away from putting across his thoughts and opinions on matters of importance. Reacting to the ongoing issue, Javed Akhtar wrote on Twitter, ‘If the Russian / Ukrainian conflict evokes a sense of fairness n justice , a humane desire to protect the weaker in them , Why all of the western powers are totally indiffrent towards Saudi carpet bombings and atrocities on a small country like Yemen (sic).’
