Early career and singing achievements
Sulakshana started singing when she was nine years old and began her career as a playback singer in 1967. Her song ‘Tu Hi Sagar Hai Tu Hi Kinara’ from Sankalp made her famous and won her the award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1975. She also received the Miyan Tansen Award that year. Her soft and emotional voice was loved in songs like ‘Saat Samandar Paar Se’ from ‘Taqdeer’, which she sang with Lata Mangeshkar.
Acting career and personal life
Later, she became an actress and appeared in movies like ‘Uljhan’ (1975), ‘Sankoch’, ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Apnapan’, ‘Khandaan’ and ‘Waqt Ki Deewar’. She was known for her graceful and expressive acting. Sulakshana was very popular in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In her personal life, she was deeply in love with Sanjeev Kumar, but he did not accept her proposal, and his death in 1985 was a great loss for her. She never married and slowly left the public eye.
