Special cameos to main leads - 5 Cricketers who tried their hand in acting

Cricket and Bollywood are two of India’s biggest obsessions, and when these worlds collide, the excitement is unmatched. While many cricketers have made brief guest appearances, some have gone beyond a blink-and-miss role, making full-fledged cameos in Bollywood films.

2/6

Kapil Dev

Kapil Dev, India’s legendary World Cup-winning captain, made a strong impact with his cameo in '83' (2021). While Ranveer Singh played him in the film, Kapil himself appeared in a memorable scene at the Tunbridge Wells Cricket Ground, adding authenticity to the story. His presence made the film even more special for fans, as he relived the biggest triumph of his career on the big screen. Seeing the real Kapil in a movie about his own legacy was a moment of pure nostalgia!

3/6

Harbhajan Singh

Harbhajan Singh is one of the few cricketers who played cameo roles in several films. From Hindi to Punjabi, he had special appearances in movies like 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi,' 'Victory,' 'Bhaji In Problem' and more. His every cameo left the audience wanting more!

4/6

Ajay Jadeja

Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja surprised fans with his acting skills in 'Khel' (2003), where he played a supporting role alongside Sunny Deol and Suniel Shetty. Unlike typical cameos, Jadeja had proper screen time and delivered dialogues, proving he could hold his own in front of seasoned actors. Though he didn’t continue in Bollywood after this film, his performance was appreciated, making him one of the few cricketers to take on a substantial acting role.

5/6

Vinod Kambli

Vinod Kambli, who is known for his great cricketing career, showed his acting chops in 'Annarth' (2002). It is a Bollywood action film starring Suniel Shetty and Sanjay Dutt. He played a key supporting character, stepping far beyond a simple cameo. While his performance was decent, his Bollywood journey didn’t last long, and he eventually moved away from acting.

6/6

Brett Lee

Former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee went beyond just a Bollywood cameo—he played the lead role in 'UnIndian' (2015), an Indo-Australian romantic film. The movie, though not a mainstream Bollywood production had all the elements of a typical Hindi film, including romance, drama and music. Brett Lee’s charming presence and chemistry with co-star Tannishtha Chatterjee made the film special for fans who loved seeing the cricket star in a new avatar.
