Suddenly, Sardarjis are in vogue in Bollywood.
Akshay Kumar, of course, set the ball rolling as Happy Singh, followed by Kunal Kapor as the Amritsar-bred Sardar in last Friday���s big release. He had also played a Sardar in Hat-Trick earlier. Now by ���happy��� coincidence, Salman Khan is a Sardar in Samir Karnik���s Heroes too.
Salman���s look was a secret until recently because Karnik wanted him to be the first in 2008 to play a Sardarji.Only Akshay beat Salman to it. Says Karnik, ���I completed my script last October when Vipul Shah���s film was nowhere to be seen. It���s not about doing a formula, but about going by character.��� To which Vipul jokes, ���Maybe I should just get the turban patented.��� And now Ranbir Kapoor is getting ready to play a Sikh in Shimit Amin���s Rocket Singh Salesman Of The Year. He���s undergoing an intense, month-long workshop to play the Sardar convincingly.
