Siddhant Chaturvedi reveals he rejected Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Brahmastra after father’s advice: 'He asked me, ‘Tujhe kaun dekhega?''
Siddhant Chaturvedi recently revealed that he was offered a role in Ayan Mukerji's blockbuster film Brahmastra, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan. However, after a conversation with his father, the Gully Boy star decided not to take the part.
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Siddhant shared that although he didn’t officially ‘turn down’ the role, the discussions were in their early stages. "It was at a very initial stage at that time, I was a nobody, a struggler, so who am I to say no to Ayan Mukerji, Dharma and Brahmastra?” he said.
The actor hinted that he was being considered for the role of one of the students in Amitabh Bachchan’s school in the film. Although the opportunity to sign a three-film deal with Dharma Productions was tempting, his father felt it wasn’t the right move.
“They were still writing the script, and I was excited. I could have done it as well, but my father wouldn’t have let me. ‘You are better than this,’ he says, even till today he pushes me. I was elated that I will be getting a three-film contract with Dharma. I met Ayan, who showed me his vision of Brahmastra. I had only done a handful of ads by then, so I was a nobody. I told my father the film has Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan and he asked me, ‘Toh tujhe kaun dekhega (so, who will notice you)?’” he said.
Siddhant recalled that he only had a vague idea of his role, involving action scenes where he’d shoot arrows. His father wasn’t impressed and advised him against taking the part without knowing the full scope of the character. "He said, ‘Nahi beta, I don’t think you should do it. Do you have the script, have you auditioned for it? If you don’t even know what you are going to do in that film, don’t sell your destiny,’" he shared.
He further added, “Even Gully Boy had Ranveer Kapoor and Alia, but after the audition, Zoya told me she will send me the script and I was shocked, because, again, I was a nobody. She casually said if I like the script, she would love to have me on board. I narrated the entire script to my father and despite the film had Ranveer and Ali, he noted two crucial scenes of mine–my entry and when I lose–and said these sequences will make me.”
On the work front, Siddhant is gearing up for his next film Yudhra, which is set to hit theaters on September 20. It also stars Malavika Mohanan, Raghav Juyal in lead roles.
