Shah Rukh Khan wasn't the first choice for 'Deewana', but THIS actor!

Shah Rukh Khan's journey in the film industry has been remarkable, solidifying his status as one of the most celebrated actors today. Interestingly, his debut film, "Deewana," played a pivotal role in his rise to stardom. However, it might surprise you to learn that Shah Rukh Khan wasn't the initial choice for the role. In fact, the makers originally approached Avinash Wadhawan, known for his work in "Balmaa," for the part.

During an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Avinash Wadhawan disclosed the rationale behind his decision to turn down the role of Raja Sahai in the 1992 film "Deewana." He said, Raju [filmmaker Raj Kanwar] mujhse milne aya. Booaton baaton mein usne mujhe bola ki mujhe film ka offer aya hai as a director. There are three producers. Hum ek film produce kar rahe hai jisme, there are 2 heroes. Rishi Kapoor has already been signed. Aur ek nayi ladki hai Divya Bharti usko we are taking, and the second hero is not yet finalized. Aur Avinash main tujhse milne aya hu, us role ke liye.”

He further added, “Mere secretary se meri baat hui. Mere secretary ne mujhe bola ki Avinash abhi ham koi nayi film sign ni kar sakte. Agar koi sign karne ke liye aayega to tell him ki next year se hum dates de sakte hai. I said Raju mere paas dates ka bhi issue aa raha hai. I can give you dates after 12 months. Abhi mai dates bhi ni de paauga. Kyuki abhi meri 8 filmein already floor pe hai. So I will not be able to give you time either.”

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan had a successful streak in 2023, delivering three consecutive hits with "Pathaan," "Jawaan," and "Dunki." His upcoming projects include "Pathaan 2.". Additionally, he is set to star alongside his daughter, Suhana Khan, in an upcoming thriller directed by Sujoy Ghosh.
