Sanjay Kapoor plays director

Back in Bollywood with Zoya Akhtar���s film, actor Sanjay Kapoor tells PT what made him stay away from the arc lights all these days.
He had his share of the limelight, and even acted with some of the top actresses of his time. But what followed later wasn���t good news. Not only did his career go downhill, it also got stuck there. Although seen in the occasional flick, he failed to make headlines with the frequency he would have liked.
But now, Sanjay Kapoor will be seen in Zoya Akhtar���s debut film.What character does he play?���I play a film director, and my character is based on a situational comedy. The film is not a comedy, but the situations make it real funny,��� says the actor.
How did the film happen? ���Zoya Akhtar and I have known each other for a while. Like others, she feels that I have a good sense of humour and people should see it. It also had something to do with the fact that this film has an ensemble cast. I���m glad I took up this venture when I got back to my acting roots,��� he says.
How does he explain his disappearance from the scene altogether? ���I was busy with my production. When you start something, you cannot leave it unfinished, right? Acting takes up a lot of your time, and so does production. But, I���m happy with my decisions, with the way things have turned out,��� says he.
B-town has seen a lot of fresh talent lately. What is his take on them? ���Youth is always a welcome change and not just in movies. I saw Farhan Akhtar in Rock On!! He was simply brilliant. Youngsters like Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma or even my niece Sonam Kapoor have a great opportunity. Even Hurman Baweja, who is in my production It���s My Life, is doing so well,��� explains Sanjay.
What is his home production It���s My Life about? ���It���s a film on relationships and people. The cast includes Hurman Baweja, Genelia D���Souza and Nana Patekar. It���s not just about the guy and the girl. It���s about the relationship of a father and a son as well. People think Anees Bazmee only makes comedies, but he makes real nice romantic films too,��� says he.
What���s next? ���My first love remains acting. I think that Zoya Akhtar���s film will open new avenues for me. I am doing a cameo in Cookie Gulati���s film and a film called Kirkit by Shashi Preetam. When I did a negative role, people said I was too soft to play a negative character. But I got away with the role. So now, I want to try out something else,��� says this actor. Let us see where his Mission Resurrection takes him.
